Default 997 Rear Seats

Are the 997 back seats reasonable for a child? I have a 5 year old. Am I gonna stick him back there on the first day and it not work out?

They will fit nicely back there with the proper seat.

Does anyone have a link to what a "proper seat" would be.

Currently he sits on the seat portion of a child seat (no back). He doesn't fit in a normal child seat. He's a big kid.

The back seats are already child seats . My boys (7 & 8) sit back there comfortably. Surprisingly, they really like it. No child seats or boosters. I tried the boosters, which were cumbersome (due to the odd shape of the seats) and it didn't really make it any safer IMO. As for child seats, I can't image how they would fit back there.

I just make sure that the seat belts come around the side of the seat back rather than over the guide on top (to avoid their necks). My kids are smaller than average so I'm guessing your boy will fit fine.

My 6 and 7 year old kids love the back seat. I have a 06 cab and even with less room than the coupe they think it is pretty cool. Probably will last about 3 more yrs...

My 5 y/o daughter sits just fine back there on a Britax Starriser, and her 20 month old brother sits on the other side in a child seat.

Do a search - there are many threads on child seats.

Let's not kid ourselves (no pun intended). They can be used in an emergency for small adults, a little bit more for kids, and longer periods in special child/infant seats for little toddlers. (The cabs are worse). I think of them purely as extended storage. But they can be used!

Hey Dan,

I understand what you mean. In your cab, the rear seat back is almost vertical making sitting back there uncomfortable.

I had a 993 Targa for 9 years before I switched to 997S. My kids used the rear seats all the time and has no problem from 2 to 9 years old. The 11 years old now refused to sit back there due to lack of rear head room. I think 9 years old is the limit. Between 2 to 4 I used a simple booster seat.

I consider the rear seat of 911 one of its best feature.

Rear seat of 997S - nobody behind me because of how far back I need to be, but behind the passenger seat with my wife in it, my 15 year old daughter is very comfortable.

What's funny is they are better than a 650i or Jag XK..those back seats make the 997's look like a 750Li.

does the britax seat sit well between the hip bolsters or is it a bit uneven due to them?

ditto our kids (9 and 6) love riding in the back and fit perfectly well. the front passenger seat needs to be moved forward just a tad to allow for decent leg room for the older boy (tall for his age) and mom still fits/sits comfortably up front. when mom is not in the car we allow the older boy to sit in the front on the very short drives around town.

the ONLY thing i don't like is the "climbing in and out" of the back seat when they do ride in the car (not seldom).

have fun and enjoy it

Also the new Mustang back seats are not as good either imo.

My son is 7 and he fits back there just fine.
