Default end of 3.6 in 997??

According to my "almost" dealer (the one I couldn't work out a deal with), he believes that the 3.6 engine in the 997 is soon to be phased out. That is, the base 997 model will no longer be made/available for order/allocation, etc.

The theory is that this will give room to up the HP in the Cayman, without encroaching on the 997 - - which will now have the 3.8/S model as the base.

Any information on this??

Just another rumor. Porsche likes giving us choices, and base vice S on the cash cow line is best served where it is. Displacement can stay the same as output goes up. Recall that DFI is coming next,--probably in the MY09 997 cars. I would expect a nudge upward for the 3.6 and 3.8 engines. Possibly the X51 range for the 3.8 cars, and approaching 3.8 territory (350PS) for the 3.6 cars. Porsche knows that they are running up against a size issue with these engines,--4 litre is just massive. But that's way down the road. This is just my estimate,--having been driving these since 1974.

All I've heard is introduction of DFI into the 2008 cars. I think the report was 10-20 HP and 10-15% better fuel economy. I think the idea was this was for both engines, but who really knows?
