Default 997 Brake Calipers - Tough to Remove? (Different from 993?)

Hi 997 board,

I'm a 993 owner and know that the brake calipers on my car are not too tough to remove - DIY here. A coworker of mine just bought a 997 and is looking to paint his calipers red. Can you tell me whether the 997 process is any different or more difficult? Are there relevant DIY instructions you can point me towards for him? I did do a couple searches on the 997 board but didn't happen on any right fits.

Thanks in advance. And BTW, despite being a 993 driver, I just want to say how great I think 997s are and look. If I had the money...

Cheers,
-Robert

It's little different but very easy. Don't know about any instructions but just take a look at them and you'll see what to do.

P.S. If you do other stuff, such as oil change, to your friends 997, next time you'll do it to your 993, you'll remember how god damn easy it was with 997 (much easier)!

Hi,
Here is the link for changing the color of your calipers
to red. You will find your brake ansewer at this site.

The whole painted brake caliper thing is sort of odd to me. Why has Porsche bothered to do this? Years ago they weren't even painted and now it's one more thing that needs to be cleaned off periodically. They are attention getters, however. While in Europe (Germany, esp.) I was amazed how many men knew what the yellow ones meant...

Great, thanks for the responses. What I'm hearing is that it's really not any different on a 997 than on the 993.

Flying Finn: Yeah, it seems like serviceability couldn't have gone anywhere but up after the 993. I guess that's part of why I like it - I feel proud after a 4 hour DIY oil change. But bottom line, it's 4 hours I won't get back...

Edgy01: The friend's 997 is guard's red - so matching brakes are purely for aesthetics in this case I believe. He's coming from a Vette, so perhaps the 997 is lacking a little bling for him?

Thanks again for the responses.

Rdurff - here is a link to a thread I started on the 996 Forum about painting my brake calipers red. Hope this helps. You will notice that I used decals/stickers for the PORSCHE emblem on the painted calipers, rather than using a template to spray paint the letters on the caliper. It has been 11 months since I painted them and they are holding up very well, and look as good today and the first day I painted them.

Hi,
Note that the 997 S has bigger calipers then the 997. I
found this out when I bought some blue pads.
