Default PSE Solenoid voltage ?

Does anyone know what the voltage is to the solenoid for the PSE?
A 9volt battery seems to activate it fairly easily so is the signal from the DME normally 12 volts or is it less?. I intend to direct wire to a switch and bypass the DME for On/Off directly using an ignition switched 12volt line if this is O.K. Otherwise a relay with a lower voltage if needed!!

According to my P-car mechanic, it is a 12-volt system.
