Default PSE Question

How can I tell if my 997 has PSE? Bought mine used - 05 and has the sport chrono option. I have very little time in my 997 - less than 1000 miles since Sept. Lately I've been playing with the sport button and swear it sounds louder with it on. Could very well be wishful thinking.

If it came from factory or if the electronics were installed along with pse afterward, there would be a switch in the dash to operate PSE.

From the exterior, a 997 with PSE has two outer exhaust tips of one size and two inner exhaust tips of a smaller size. A non-PSE 997 has all exhaust tips of an equal size.

It's very noticeable if you DID have PSE.

So the switch is seperate from the "sport" switch for the sport chrono package?

I was under the impression that you could reuse the old exhaust tips on a new PSE muffler install regardless if non-S (oval) or S (twin tips).

If my above impression is true, looking at the tips will not determine 100% accurate if PSE system. Sound comparison would be the best choice in my opinion. Am I wrong, must we use a different exhaust tip on the PSE muffler???

cvasquez, you're correct. Sound should be the indicator.

You could also tell by looking at the mufflers to see if they have the bypass pipes and cutoff valves...if they use the same method on the 997 as the 996 PSE.

Check under the rear of the P-car… On the PSE mufflers check for two outer exhaust outlets on each muffler. A non-PSE, AWE, Fabspeed, Tubi muffler has one exhaust outlet coming from each muffler.

Check your muffler outlets... two outlet per muffler = PSE
No muffler = bypass connection.

I hope this helps.

Call your dealer with the VIN. They can tell you if it came with PSE from factory or if a Porsche dealer/service center installed it.
