US Autobahn - high speed event
Man, I'd love to be able to go down to Nevada this summer and do this event:

I'd REALLY like to see what 150 mph+ feels like in my car.

For 3 Seconds, I was up there @ 150. Man it's awfully fast... I think that will be the last time I will be traveling that fast. LOL!!! I don't have the nerve of steel. Traffic come up real quick and got to have smooth roads. Any bump or dips and bamm....It was an experiences that was thrilling at the time. I would follow the board advices and do it on the track....A better control enviroment to play in.
After picking the car up in Germany last summer, 150mph seem quite comfortable in the C4S. Found myself going that speed often. But I must say when I hit 170mph on those roads(autobahn), I was in need of a hand massage. My knuckles were white!!!
Thanks for this post. I live pretty close and had no idea about it! Would love to hit 150 again without the vision of "Steel Bars" as a window!

I must agree with you. My short trip proved quite challenging with the crowded autobahns. I really enjoyed the secondary roads! I remember the roads alot less crowded in 1984. But, the world is growing!!!

Americans get out of practice at driving at high speeds,--and are generally much less safe than someone who does it year around. I hope everyone recognizes their limitations.
The Silver State Classic (used to be Silver State Challenge) has been going on for 20 years. The rules have changed a lot. The first time I saw it, around 90', when a Testarossa crashed at around 170 killing the passenger. Gotlieb had the fastest car, a 69' Camaro...actually a 69' Camaro body on a Nascar tube frame chassis. His average speed was around 200 mph. Back then they didn't have the class and safety structure they have today. What is the same today is that Pantera club shows up and starts the event, but they don't finish...except by tow truck.
Be cautious about the rules. First timers are ONLY allowed to run in 95 mph and 110 mph classes unless you have a racing license and are approved on a special waver. They do multiple random speed checks along the way. If you get caught running faster than 124 mph as a first timer, you are done.
True! Right at 130 my front end would get very light and start moving around with the US standard suspension. With the ROW M030 on the other hand, it was perfectly stable at 163 (thes fastest I've gone so far in it).

I was slow to this thread, but I recommend the Silver State as a great car guy weekend. I did my rookie run last May in my 996 (see the Silver State homepage for photo and article), and had a great time. I ran in the 120mph class in September with a 140mph maximum, and I'll do the same this May. I'll think about doing a couple of safety upgrades this summer that would qualify the car for higher speeds up to 150mph average/165mph maximum.
Wow sounds like fun!
Question for those in the Bay Area considering, would you drive there or take a trailer? Not worried so much about the car just the tires going there and coming back.
