This sounds like the same type of power plug that went to my NAV drive. If you measure the voltage levels on the pins you should find a ground and two pins that measure +12V. This is where I messed up - I took power from the first +12V line that I found and it was not really a +12V line.

The two pins that were +12V and ground were next to each other, side by side at one end of the connector.

P.S. I think the connector had 10 or 12 pin positions with 3 wires going into it.

This is what I found:

1. The Fiber connection going to the NAV drive is the Yazaki connection (as mentioned here: http://www.dension4u.de/shop/product...oducts_id=1441)
2. There was an extra plug behind the NAV unit; it had three cables going into it. Possibly used to power the CD Changer.
My NAV drive had the Yazaki connector as well, but everything still worked in my car despite the warning on the maxcount.de product page.

Thanks for the great write-up. I'm also on the group buy with eric@bumperplugs.com too. Earlier in the thread you mentioned that the price of the Gateway 500 was 361,21EUR plus 25EUR but on the maxcount.de website it's listed as being 419EUR. So I guess I'm wondering where you found the 361,21EUR price?

Do you still feel that the one from eric is not the real Dension Gateway 500 unit?

The 361,21EUR price came from my invoice. I think its because they don't charge VAT for orders shipped out of the EU.

Eric says that he has now changed his group buy to the Gateway 500. He indicated that the earlier photos were from a time when the group buy was for the DICE unit.

Actually it is 351.21 EUR and shipping to US is 25 EUR.

That's what I thought but his email to me indicated otherwise. I'm probably just confused again...maybe he thought I was talking about the ICE unit but I cannot find the group buy page on bumperplugs.

I guess the group buy is closed now. The page you're thinking of is this:

GROUP BUY IS VERY ACTIVELY UNDERWAY AND IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

Just email me and you will be added. We are compiling the FAQ now with details on all the questions raised over the past few months. Our first units are inbound RIGHT NOW and should be in hand next week. DENSION units, not Dice, though the test shots show some Dice connectors, this unit is not supplied with those.

It is the purely Dension Gateway product and our pages will be updated very shortly.

Thanks.

I noticed that the Dension unit has an "aux" in. Does this mean we could also use that to attach a satellite radio receiver rather than having to use the FM transmitter?

Yes, however the Gateway has 3 inputs which are used automatically in this order:
1) iPod - if an iPod is plugged in, it is automatically used first
2) USB - if a USB mass storage device is plugged in, it is automatically used if there is no iPod connected
3) AUX - if no iPod or USB device is plugged in, then the AUX input is automatically used.

So if you want to use the Gateway 500 for both iPod and Satellite radio (through the AUX input), you would need to unplug the iPod in order to use the Satellite radio receiver.

Rick, thanks for the quick reply. That kills two birds with one stone and certainly makes the Dension unit even more attractive for me. You should get some sort of commission from Dension for all the useful advice you have provided here being the beta tester.

What's the word on the video compatibility? Your website mentioned some kind of "video connector" - is this attached to the Gateway 500 or the iPod? Can we get this as part of the group buy?
