I can't remember where I read this but there are two mic places on the left and right side of the steering wheel console. One is where the mic for the stereo goes so "dynamically" adjust the volume and the other is where the mic for the phone goes.
Member bbywu will hopefully be posting some pics, but he believes this area in the steering column does not work very well with the Dension mic.

Back to the iPod cable: Scoured this thread and no one has mentioned how to thread the cable from the trunk to the glove box. From Eric's emails to me, I thought the big rubber grommet somehow led to the glove compartment. But according to you, it goes to the driver's footwell?? Is there another grommet on the passenger side that can be used to somehow get into the glovebox?

I think there is a gap from the driver footwell to the passenger footwell so you can route the cable that way to the glovebox. I have seen some put it in the tunnel and emerge in the arm-rest.

Actually, if you want the iPod in front then why not mount everything behind the PCM unit? Edgy has a great post which shows his Tooki install.

Slit in the grommet, feed a fish wire (hanger, etc) from the trunk through the grommet, get another set of hands and a flashlight to pull it from inside the cabin. Then string your iPod, Aux and/or BTA mic cables back through the grommet using the fish, feeding from inside the passenger footwell area back to the trunk.

Then place the larger ends you need in the glove box for iPod, Aux, etc.

I understand all that, Eric. But how do the wires once in the footwell get to the glovebox?

That's a very clean install. But it's not entirely clear which wires he's tapping into from the pics. Plus, I don't even know if the Dension iPod+BT unit would fit behind there. Would hate to remove everything, tap into the wires, only to find that I can't even put the PCM back

It's pictures like this that scare me
But my question remains. Despite pulling apart the entire glove box, how do you route the wire from the grommet in the trunk to the glove box?

You run the wires from the cabin into the trunk first (smaller ends that way). You can drop the glove box if you need to and bring them straight in from behind the dash once they are in from the firewall. Clean up with zip ties or similar so they aren't hanging.

Some pics of my install:

Here is the mic on the steering column.

This is where the mic wire is tucked - you can't see it.

All the goodies in the trunk, next to the CD changer. They are velcro'd to the carpet.

The mic wire from the battery bay leading to the trunk. A buddy of mine said that I should have the wire loop down and then up into the grommet in case water gets in there and follows the wire through the hole. So I looped the wire under that black rubber thingy just below and to the right of the grommet after this photo was taken.

To add to Eric's comments, with glove box remove you have open access to an open area behind PCM dash to route any cables you need. Take your pick on where you preffer to attach via zip ties.

To get an idea, get a flash light and poke your head up under drivers foot well. shine flashlight along firewall and you'll see what we are reffering to.

The best thing you can do is take TONS of pic and take your time. So you know what goes where when it's time to reassemble. Took me a full afternoon and was well worth it!

Search the forum for "how to's" on removing the glove box. not a big deal just take your time...

Kuhan,

Just curious on what your experience has been with the placement of your mic on the steering column.

Here's a pic of mine, hard to see but look closely between the two gauges and you'll see it. I have a C4S Cab and with top up, people complain of noise..

I've given up and resorted to using my Jawbone Icon with custom molded earpiece; would be a different story if I had a coupe but refuse to give up my cab!

Well I have a coupe so that's probably more of a factor than anything else. So far I have had absolutely no complaints from anyone who I have called from the car. Since I just installed it, I've only made 3 calls so that's hardly a great sample size.

Now my real problem is that receiving calls doesn't seem to work! I can accept the call from the console but no sound comes from the speakers even though it says it's connected to the BT. Perhaps it's due to me using the iPhone as a music source... Something I need to do some research on.
