Yesterday when I tried to do the reading in the morning. I started the car and turned it off right away (after 2 seconds). when I started the oil check the timer started counting down from 60 minutes.
This morning I did it without starting the engine at all. it took 5 seconds.
So if you start the car even for 1 second the reading will take 60 minutes. I guess the control assumes that all the oil must all return the pan again!
Thanks again.

When you are taking the oil level reading in the morning, are you starting the car BEFORE you take the initial reading? That is the only way I can imagine that it would take 60 minutes for an oil level reading. If you start the car, then turn it off and then attempt to take the reading, then I could see where it will take 60 minutes.
I have a 996. I just went out to the garage and took an oil reading which took 5 seconds. Then I started the car and let it run for 5 seconds. I then turned the car off and attempted to take an oil level reading. The "timer" started at 58 minutes and 59 seconds and began the countdown.
When you first get into the car in the morning, turn the key to the right one notch and the oil level will be measured in about 5 seconds. Once the oil level has been verified, THEN start the car for the first time that day.
If you are NOT starting the car before taking the initial oil level reading, then have the dealer check it out.
