What does a 6 month old 997s look like after 3 DE/Track events? :)
Hello all and happy holidays:
So I have had my wonderful 997s for 6 months now and here some pix I took today after getting her detailed.
I have tracked her 3 times, and after some very hard driving, she still looks as good as new. Granted she has some nasty paint chips on the front hood, but the car still looks great.
So after 6 months of having the car here are my thoughts:
Versus the 996, the car handling is so vastly improved, I can hardly believe it. For this reason alone 997 is worth upgrading to.
I should not have gotten the adaptive seats. Total waste, sports seats would have been fine.
I never use the wart, but I like the sport functionality. Wish there was a way to order sport button without the wart.
I can not figure out how to get the lap time mode going to see my 'lap times' I guess I should RTFM...
PASM is amazing.
X51, great sounds, but almost can not notice a difference vs the normal "s" cars on a DE day. (should have just gotten sport exhaust)
Car phone: Although the controls are very frustrating, the system usually works fantastic and has incredible range. Wish the output of the caller came out both speakers, but for feedback loop reasons, they prolly had to put it on just one side. I do recommend it - and it is WAY safer.
All black interior dials, I really prefer them
I still like the rims I got the best.
TPMS is wonderful. At the track I use it as live telemetry.
Sport shifter. Fantastic. I do have notchy issues once in a while into first gear, but it easy to over come.
BOSE Stereo sounds fine. I rarely listen to music though. I am either in the mood to listen to the car or talk otp
Wish there was a permenant mute button on the radio while I am in between calls, drives me crazy that it keeps coming back on.
Problems: I get way less gas mileage than I think I should and the car still has a burning smell whenever I stop.
What I miss about the 996. I miss the r2d2 arm that sticks up when I do the pointless squirt on the lights
I hope everyone is well,
Greg

Sounds like you're really enjoying your 997. I really enjoy mine too. However, haven't had her to the track yet. making plans for this spring.
Regarding the paint chips, I'm assuming you don't have a clear bra. Do you touch-up the chips after each track day?

I also expected a greater performance differential between the 996 & 997 at the track based on the general "feel" and the specs.
The 996 GT3 models seem to have an advantage at the track compared to other versions.
( or maybe the guys that drive them are just more track experienced )
The 996 turbo cars do not seem to have the track advantage that I assumed they would.
The 997 seems to be faster in wet track conditions than the 996.
The X-51 cars do not seem quicker than the "s" on the track.
Overall though - I have never owned a car that would perform so well on a track for extened times
- and still drive to work every day.

Taking her to the track is the only way to enjoy her correctly and safely
I would never put a clear bra on because I think it is an eye sore and she wears the nicks proudly. I think the car looks more agresive with some of the nicks [after a while it starts looking nasty tho]
I do not do touch up, but I might after a while.
