11 ft. pounds of torque. Yes only 11!
At $16,900 that's $1,536.37 per ft. pound of torque...not including the tax...which here in Colorado would bump the total to $18,238.05 or $1,661.19 per foot pound of torque.
IMHO the most rediculous option available for a 997.
For $3-4K yes... for $17K, you've got to be insane or just have money to throw away because I highly doubt that anyone actually notices the difference.

The only reason you feel it is because your right rear pocket is 7 pounds lighter now!

I got it (X-51). I like it. It's expensive. With PCCB's it probably is in GT3 territory as far as cost but I drive my car everyday and use the backseats too.

Pick your debate ...S vs non -S...GT3 vs Turbo....S vs X-51S. I am sure there are plenty of threads in the archives to keep you busy.

I just completed the PDE and I had as much fun driving the standard 997 as I did the S. There is no bad way to go. Pick your options spend your dollars. It's all good (and expensive).

one of the most intelligent quotes I've seen in a while. to each his own. value is relative.

Now that the TT is out, it doesn't make sense anymore.

I think the TT is soulless compared to the 997S. The sensory experience is not as good: too quiet, too soft, dare I say it too "GT". Frankly if I wanted more performance I would skip the TT and go straight to the GT3.

Seriously, the car just BELTS itself out with the x51 power band. Very near the "supercar" jump that we've all been looking for. And besides, it's only 6 pounds 9 ounces 14 grams... really.

And then, of course, a whole new set of threads... GT3 or GT2? Will the extra $50,000 be worth it for the GT2? GT3RS or GT2... I can't WAIT!

I have owned several Porsches and I still feel any Porsche factory option is going to better than the aftermarket with resale. But resale, is no way to interpret this, since we all are driving depreciating assets, no matter what the options are.

Spend the money on the options you feel will make the driving more pleasurable. Is it worth the money, maybe not, but is the 997S worth the premium over a Corvette Z06 or BMW M series? I bet people on those forums would give you one heck of a debate and those cars are less expensive.

For you guys that are trying to justify it, then don't buy that way. Trying to make sense of dollar per bhp or torque is silly. We all bought these cars because we like the marque, I like the x51 package because I wanted a car that I could drive regularly on the street and felt a GT3 might be too harsh.

Bottom line, most of the guys that drive these 997S don't take them to the limit, hence would never see a big difference. Even on the track, a seasoned driver in a non X51 would most likely have faster times than a regular driver DE guy in a X51.

Just my opinion, but if cost is a factor and you can't rationalize the extra money, just realize there are other brands out there that might be a better buy on paper.

good post mr. newman

i'd argue that it's the guys who never ever will take the 911 to the limit that would value this x51 package most - just knowing that they got it is enough to make them go do the damn thang.

When Excelence mag did a review of the Club Coupe which has X-51, they did a side-by-side with another C2S. Obviously, the Club Coupe pulls ahead, but not by a large margin. They do agree that the sound, feel of the X-51 option is sure nice, but when you add other "needed" options, "that's alot of coin for a 911".

As much as I wanted the X-51, I just couldn't see spending the extra $$. However, I wish the PCCB were standard on all "P" cars. That's one option I wanted after driving one with PCCB's, it's fantastic.

For a daily driver, will you really need an X-51 or really feel it? Maybe and maybe not.

However, a GT3 or GT3RS now you're talking a serious car that is both street and track car. If you want that thrill, get a GT3 or GT3RS. Those are pure driving sport cars which can be driven to the limit and ask for more!

It's up to you, do you REALLY want to pay for a jump from 355 to 381 HP?

Regards,
Deanski

I personally don't think it's silly at all. In fact, it's a very simple concept of cost/benefit analysis. That I believe is rational!

I don't think that you hear people arguing about the difference between the S and non S because in my opinion Porsche did a great job of giving the buyer a good amount for their extra $10,200 (3.8 liter motor with 30 more hp and 23 more ft lb or torque, xenon lights, PASM, 19" wheels, sport wheel, etc). For $16,900 for the powerkit I would expect far more.
