I'm a fan of Toyo RA1 and Michelin PSC. Certainly not the "fastest" track tire on a warm dry day, but for me they are pretty well balanced (cold mornings, long wearing, drive from home to track, good in the wet, etc.).
In working with a few wheel companies and assessing the possibilities for my 997S, it appears that the following are currently available tire options in RA1 and PSC:
RA1 (or Nitto NT01)
275/35-18 Front, 305/35-18 Rear
9.5" rim Front, 25.55" diameter, 10.94" wide tire
11" rim Rear, 26.3" diameter, 12.48" wide tire
PSC
235/40-18 Front, 295/30-18 Rear - this is the "old stand by" set
8.5" rim Front, 25.4" diameter, 9.5" wide tire
11" rim Rear, 25.2" diameter, 12.1" wide tire
265/35-18 Front, 315/30-18 Rear
9.5" rim Front, 25.2" diameter, 10.9" wide tire
11" rim Rear, 25.5" diameter, 13.2" wide tire
OEM PS2s are 25.5" front diameter and 26" rear diameter so all of these options should be pretty close as far as speedo / odo are concerned.
The 9.5" front and 11" rim option looks good in that either the Toyo / Nitto or the "beefy" PSC option work.
For wheels, right now the CCWheel Corsair at $2,600 a set looks to be a very good option and value (one piece forged 19 lbs front, 21 lbs rear). John is confirming fitment and clearance.
Wondering if anyone has any comments, suggestions, etc.
