Edgy-I admire guys that can do their own maintenence. I saw a very indepth write-up on the oil change by OC Ben. I might try that at the next 10k mark. Don't know how involved the filter change is. But, I've heard that the brake bleed is a lot more involved and needs special tools. It would be nice to get an expert opinion on a 10k (don't know that 10k is the right interval) list of to-dos and some step-by-step directions for those of us that are less mechanically inclined.

Can't even think what a true 20K service charge would be at that dealer.

It was not my sales dealer, only one that was closer to Norwalk, but not past Bridgeport for those in CT, you'll know who.

You can do the oil change, it's very easy. Before I purchased a scissor lift, I had some 2x12 lumber that I cout to about 4', then angle cut the ends so I could drive up on them to gain a little needed clearance. The oil filter is in plain view and is just a spin on housing if I remember correctly.

Its ok to do you own oil changes but what about reseting the Service Message on the dash? Only the dealer can do that. How do you get rid of that with out going to the dealer. And would they be nice enough to do it for you?

Oh, and there was a surprise I found from this dealer.

Driver side door ding! From where the slight ding is on the door it looks from when they had it on the lift and opened the door, which then hit the lift.

I forgot to put the magnetic door guards on prior to being put on the lift. They were still in the trunk area during the service. Normally I put these on B4 lift work.

You know I will be calling the dealer. Let's see how fast the finger pointing starts as to who's at fault.

You'd think they would install some foam on some of these lifts.

Deanski

You can reset it yourself, the instructions should be in the manual.

This was for "just an oil change" at one dealer yesterday.

Why did they charge for brake cleaning on PCCB's is beyond me?

Damn, $10.88 for a quart of Mobil-1? Note to self, bring own oil. Must be those designer quart containers? Jeeezzz.

Next time, I'm going to ask that they at least wear a mask, this way I know I'm getting robbed!!

Deanski - WOW, you got $crewed! Did they at least give you a "reach around" while they were pumping you?

Just had my oil/filter changed at the "stealer"--$250. Mobil 1 was $8 a quart. They did program the autolock feature for free but I was clearly hosed. Looked at non-dealer alternatives but was not impressed and just decided to bite the bullet.

I use a local Porsche specialist (builds and supports race teams etc. - wicked nice guy) charged me $130 for an oil change etc.... and did it while I watched.... okay, so I had to buy and add my own windshield fluid

Where??? I've looked and have not come across this type of info. On my MINI, you had to go into the conputer and use the key and brake pedal to re-set the meter. Any info would be appreciated..........

I am taking my 997S in on Friday for an oil change @ about 5500 miles. To me, it's money well spent since this is a car I plan on keeping forever.

D.D. I'm sure it was in the manual on my 05 997, just can't remember. If you can't find it, just call your dealer they will tell you how.

Nope, got a small token as well. A small ding in the drivers door. This had to be their "money shot". Must be from when they had it on the lift and opened the door. Although service manager says the lifts are padded and doesn't think it happened there, I told him that I just did a QD wipedown prior. So who knows, I may get to keep the door ding! Gee, I'm so lucky.

Bad thing too was sales dealership siad they would have made time for me and charged me a whole lot less.

And oh yea, my a$$ still is sore from the dealer pumping away while taking my wallet.

Lesson learned.

take the car in ask them to rack it and open the door see where the ding lines up. its kind of hard to get the car to far off on a rack
