Default WASHING

I'm a new 997 owner , I notice that when i wash my car that a big slug ( about a mouthful ) of water goes down the air intake when I open the hood to dry the engine area ( this is after I've dried off the rest of the car ) . Is this a problem ?

Should not be....there is a drain hole in there.

Doesn't appear to be a problem as the section of the engine in question appears to be water resistant. Air intake has a drain hole for excess water. For precisely this reason I don't open the engine compartment to detail under the hatch/wing until the day after I wash.

Yup. I wait until the car dries and slowly open the engine lid with a shop rag in one hand just in case there is any residual in the channel. I do the same for my 'old school' front-engined cars as well.

An age old trick for 911 washers is to open up the engine compartment BEFORE you go at the car with a hose, etc., and lay a nice beach towel across the opening, and then gently lower the tail back down. It will pretty much keep the big amounts of water from getting in there. (Not that it really matters).

Dan, that is a trick I will use! Thank you for the tip.

I do something similar but use a large plastic bin liner that covers all of the engine bay plus some. Any water just runs off over the rear bumper.
