Default Touch up paint and clear coat question

Hi,

I'm repairing a tiny but deep scratch. It was probably a very small stone, only made a scratch about this size of this period:

.

But its deep and looks like it went all the way through the paint so it will rust if left untreated. I bought the touch up kit and quick question, do I apply the paint then the clear coat or the clear coat then the paint?

Thanks!

Kurt, you CANNOT be serious (in my best McEnroe impression).

Clear is always the top coat. See my link on stone chips below for more info.

If the chip is as tiny as your "period" there, I'd just fill it with color and be done with it, unless you're really **** and work with a magnifying glass or high powered reading glasses (like me) and can see where the color level is and then fill to that, let it dry, and then finish filling it up with clear. But for something really tiny like a speck, I would just fill it with touchup and then smooth out and level off the little mound of paint for a really professional looking job. It's not difficult to do at all. And you'll be amazed at yourself for doing a decent job of it.

Hey, Ben, nice avatar! Who did you commission to paint your “portrait?”
