Default stock exhaust help?

Is the 997 and 997s stock exhaust system any different. Not talking about the pse system. Just stock. I think the outlet flange to the tips is different (smaller) on the 997 and if so would that effect Horsepower.

Don't know about the mufflers and cats but the headers are very different. There's a good comparison on one of the Fabspeed videos.

The exhausts are different. The outlet flange on the 997 is smaller. I put the S tips on my 997 (pre-Fabspeed) and had to add a 1/4" bushing to get them to fit.

I wonder if the smaller outlet flange would reduce hp.

AWE says the smaller size is restrictive and negates the performance improvements that would come with a sport exhaust.

What company is awe refering to? Porshce themselves or some aftermarket company they compete against.

Sorry for the confusion. My inquiry to AWE was if they had an exhaust system for a base 997 (they advertise the S version). They responded that their exhaust system fits the base 997 but they do not market it as such because mounting the base 997 tips (with the smaller opening) on their system (AWE) will lessen the performance gains. If you mount the S tips you will realize the full benefit.

Gotcha.... S tips usually go for between $100 - $200 on ebay. I picked up a chrome set to go with my Schnell Exhaust (installing tomorrow) as most aftermarket exhausts seem to have the same size outlets as the S. No, I'm not trying to make the car look like an S....I just didn't feel like spending $500+ on the Fabspeeds.

I did the same things (bought "S" tips to go with the Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers for my C2). I'm glad I did; the car does seem to breathe better and pull better from low revs.

Many of us would appreciate a post on your experience with the Schnell exhaust: Quality of construction, sound, resonances, etc.

As I understand it, you would need to do something to the intake to make the car breathe better, exhaust alone will not do this.

Actually in the videos they say the headers on the non S and S are the same, don't know this to be a fact though. According to AWE and Fabspeed they are the same.
