Default Goofy Nav system

Anyone ever have an issue with their nav system losing it's orientation? When I put my nav system in "map display mode" it acts as if the car's doing 360's as I drive down the road. In other words, the orientation of the car is rotating clockwise and the directions continue to change accordingly.

Could this be a loose or bad GPS sensor? Anyone know where the sensor is located? I'm going to take it into the dealer, but I just wanted to check here to see if anyone's experienced this before.

There is nothing wrong with your display.
Change your map display preference setting .
You can have the North arrow pointing up all the time or the map rotating around the car .
Turn on the map.
Push the selector button ( bottom right )
select your preference

I have not noticed this but I have experienced very rapid and conflicting instructions. In the time it takes to say I was told to:

Make a U turn
Turn right
Turn left
Make a U turn.

I later deduced the cause to be switching on the sat nav while passing over another road e.g. on a highway flyover.

remember guys - the Nav system doesn't always depend on sat signals - it can dead reckon, also, based on last known gps fix and wheel rotations over time.

Sooooo, if you spin your tires, you can experience an out-of-synch nav pointer. This is clearly stated in the PCM / Navi manual.

Snarf's point about the overpass / flyover is well taken here. The system seems to resynch its position data pretty quickly if you drive straight for a short distance with a clear view of the sky.

Next time the system goes off-track, change to the status screen and see how many satellites you're receiving at that point... I'll bet that it'll be a low number, too low for a full 3D fix (no Z-axis data).

And yeah, I'd recommend changing your display to "North up", I get dizzy watching the map spin around... <g>

Rolf,
Perhaps I didn't do a good job of explaining the problem. When I'm driving down the street, in a straight line, the nav system thinks the orientation of the car is changing, when it's not. When I put Nav system in map display mode, the arrow rotates even though the car's not turning.
