Ronnie, Thanks for the pics. It helps put it in perspective. I am getting some soot on both sides (equal amounts) but nothing like you have after running 400 miles. You should get to a dealer soon.

Hi Gerry. I had a problem with my 986 Boxster engine a few years ago. It had a 'slipped liner' and failed catastrophically. I'm in the UK. Porsche gave me a factory remanufactured engine replacement. I also had a few other problems with the car. Some of the issues were not being resolved and I contacted the Head of Porsche UK and explained the situation to him. The problems were solved pretty quickly after that. I suggested to DrMark in my PM to him that he should do the same if he was not having any success in obtaining a factory remanufactured engine replacement.

I'm sorry to hear about these 997 engine problems!

It wasn't under warranty. His warranty was 3/36 at the time he purchased (when the Boxster S first came out).

Ronmart,
No out of pocket exes - Porsche paid for all diagnostics ( and two new separators and new exhaust that I didn't need) before supplying a new engine. Rebuidl was going to be £6800 so my dealer waived the 14 hour labour bill to Porsche for fitting the new engine (they sold me the car used with the fault so felt obliged to help).
I'm happy customer! Soot was noticeable after 100 miles - and like Ronnie after 3 - 400.
