At the risk of incurring the rath of hard core stick-slammers, no, it's a tip. I've been clutching since I learned how to drive on a '66 Volkswagon Beetle. I've had an "86 300Z stick, an "89 911 Carrerra stick, a '93 300 ZX. If it weren't for heavy traffic--this is my daily driver--I'd still have a stick. I can run thru the gears with the best of them. However, traffic makes constant clutching a pain (literally). With the thumb toggles, I can still get involved when I want to. True, it's not quite the same.

3. My friends '04 Galardo has more issues.
4. It's not a Lexus, (and I knew that going in).
5. It's fun factor compensates for dealer visits.
6. The 997S is not my last car.
7. Maybe I'm "taking one for the Team" with 3 replacements.

Hope that helps...
Thanks, but it still sux Porsche is having these problems with an engine design that's been in production for quite a few years.

It'll all be fine. I'd rather have a 997 with a temporary problem than not have a 997. I'm bringing it in next Monday--will report the findings. Gravdgr--why did you only have your car for 6 months/7000 miles after your repairs ? I took some pix--now to figure out how to post them.
Well, I bought the 996 C2 last December and liked it so much (although I liked the looks of the 997 better), I decided I wanted a brand new 997 C2S so I traded it in May for a 2007 order.

I was curious because someone here had mentioned previoulsy that RMS leaks were rare with a tip. (I took that to mean not only were they less common because of a smaller "installed base" but disproportionately so because of a different design.)

i think they are rarer because theres less tip sports cars are there,
alot of people think it has to do with the input shaft vs torque convertor putting pressure on the crank........i dont think so that torqe converot puts way may strain on that crank

I highly doubt its a rear main. I havent seen any of the new style seals leak. The 997 has been for the most part VERY leak free with the small exception of very early 997s which were shipped with the old style seal and intermediate shaft bearing cover. I bet its cosmoline and you are freaking out for nothing. Settle down a bit and just enjoy the fact you own the thing to begin with.

Adding data that validates the above quoted post... My C2S was in fact one of the "...very early 997s...". It was actually in the first production batch after the all black 997 launch cars.

I did not know that Porsche had issued a new style seal. That is very good news.

I do know for certain that the '06 C4S that I'm driving now hasn't leaked or burned a drop in the first 2000 miles.

Had my appointment at the local Porsche dealership. Good news--it is oil, but.... The RMS is bone dry. The VarioCam seals are dry. Turns out he found a little puddle of oil sitting on top of the engine. He found a crack in the oil filler tube ! Just to check, he poured in some oil, and sure enough, a little seeped out at that crack. He said "before we start chasing ghosts" we'll replace that cracked plastic tube, and see if that solves it. Pretty sure that's all it is. The engine is tight, and he said these 997 engines have been oil-tight. So, good news for all of us!

Huh? What's w530? My car's only 2 months old, so it's being replaced under warranty. There was no mention of any recall, TSB, or anything. What's up? Any other recalls TSB's, etc. concerning '06 997 C2 ?

06 would have the updated one already
05s and ealry 06s have the old style tube, and they are replaced under recall.
if you car had been shipped with an old style tube and you only picked it up 2 months aog it would have been changed at the pdi before you took delivery
