The 18" wheels I'm mounting are 18x8.5 and 18x11 with correct offsets so I don't think they will need spacers They are also more than 30lbs lighter than the stock set which will make a very noticable difference in driving dynamics, especially when combined with the >30lbs less weight the PCCB's offer.
If you do not mind sharing, what brand are you using?

a 997S with lightweight 18" wheels and PCCB will accelerate substantially faster than a 997S with 19" rims and stock brakes....

I'm awaiting the arrival of these wheels:

Obviously, performance is more important to me than aesthetics! They weigh:

Front: 18"x9" = 14lbs, 3oz
Rear: 18"x11" = 17lbs, 2oz

I'm also changing the lugs to a set that weigh 1.5lbs less per corner so the collective total should be about 9lbs less per corner. The PCCB also drop about 9lbs per corner so compared to a standard 997S, it should have nearly 20lbs per corner less rotating mass. Based on the widely accepted formula, that'll be like dropping nearly 400lbs of static weight from the car.

My mistake! Make that a drop of approximately 250lbs of static weight from the car. The formula for rotating, unsprung weight is 5:1 relative to static, sprung weight.

Ok, too many Sapphire and tonics. 20lbs per corner is 80lbs total. 80lbs x 5 = 400lbs of static weight.

Also, 18'' will not affect this becuase the overall diameter remains the same, as the 18'' tires have a larger aspect ratio.

Made by DyMag in England (www.dymag.com). Forged magnesium centers and carbon fiber hoops. 2 piece wheel with titanium fasteners. They've passed German TUV certification for road use so they are exceptionally strong. They are also available in 19" and different styles. I like 18's for all the reasons above plus they are less vulnerable to damage.

They are now the wheel offered on the Mosler and Koeniggsegg supercars. I was one of the first U.S. customers (guinea pig?) and received wholesale pricing. Retail is $8500 a set through Alan or Dave at Wheelenhancement (www.wheelenhancement.com). Mine haven't arrived yet because they are made to order (size, style, offsets, and powdercoating) and take about 8 weeks to arrive. I hope to have them mounted by our 10/19 track event.

They've been track tested extensively by European Porsche tuning specialist PARR and here in the U.S. by Bill Koenig of Rennworx on his GT3. Even GM tested them on the Cadillac CTS-V a while back. They are the lightest wheel on the market.

Magnesium, while very, very light, looks a bit chunky compared to aluminum. I don't think they are the best looking wheels but I'm very excited to experience the combination of ultra lightweight wheels & PCCB. I've always had more of a form follows function approach. On looks alone, I think the Kinesis wheels are really good looking.

The braking should be amazing with significantly less rotating inertia. As an interesting side point, taking nearly 20lbs off each corner would allow softer damping settings for better grip. I'll post pics and driving impressions in a month or so.

I look forward to your feedback and impressions. 400 lbs of "static" weight is huge....I am about ready to go for it myself...hah.

Interested to know how you did that. The collective weight of the factory OEM lug bolts is 1 lb, 4.7 ozs to begin with (at each wheel).

H20N00,
what size tires are you going to mount on your 18" wheels? I'm thinking about to downsize the stock wheels for track use. I have been using stock wheels/tire(Mich. PS2).
I plan to use 18" wheels with Mich. Sport Cup tires, but I want keep the tire width at 295 rather 265 on stock 18" wheels.
thx

Agreed, that doesn't add up. If I'd thought about it at the time, I think it would have been obvious.

I'm going to talk with the retailer who made the claim on their website (it's not there now). The retailer's claim was 1.5lb reduction per wheel but when I read your post I was immediately concerned. The cost of the product to save 6 or 8 ounces is not justifiable (probably wasn't at 6lbs... but when you want the best/lightest, sometimes cost is a secondary consideration).

FWIW - The lugs are titanium and made by Poggipolini in Italy. I don't have a scale accurate enough to weigh them but there's a post office nearby...

Answer to my own question...
I should use the stock wheels/tires from Carrera 4 (235/40/18 F, 295/35/18 R)
