Default Thinking of buying the Gritot's Random Orbital Polisher

How is that compare to the PC-7424. Anyone has any comment/experience on using the Gritot's Polish and Best of Show Wax kit? Thank you for all your input.

My brother has the Griots and I have the PC. He uses the Griots products and I use Meguiar's NXT. Hard to tell the difference; both look great. BTW: both cars are silver so it's easy to compare.

Thanks for your input. I heard that PC make the Griots polisher. Are they the same unit. Griots claim their runs from 4000 - 7000 opm which is a bit higher then the PC.

PorscheDoc told me that PC used to make the Griots version, but no longer. He said the new Griots is a made in China version and no longer the quality it used to be. FWIW.

PC is made in the USA. Just go PC, you can get it locally at Lowes for under $100. You'll need to buy pads anyway so just get the bare bones version.

They are so close that it really doesn't make any difference. I have the PC and a friend has the Griots and the are essential the same unit unless the newer ones have changed. However, I do like the Griot products better than a variety of 3M and various polishes/glazes/waxes, etc.

I bought the Porter-Cable one and then get the pads from Griott.

Edgy01, how do you like their pads. Do you use their polish and wax as well. Any comment. I notice that the groits have a cooling fan behind the backing plate to make it cooler. Do the PC has that as well?

At times I think some of their pricing is a bit high, but I can appreciate some of his localized engineering to cool down the whole thing. Remember that professionals have learned to do this sort of stuff over many years, and Griot probably knows that us amateur users might burn our paint if we're not too careful. (The regular P-C doesn't have that, but I don't think it's that critical. Just stay aware of what heat you are creating).

I like their pads in that they are simplicity itself. They are velcro backed and go easily onto their backing plate. I highly endorse the P-C machines. First rate stuff.

Experiment on the wife's car a bit first!

The PC 7424 can be had online for cheap! Same goes for good pads. The Edge now has the adapters for the PC so you can switch between pads! I use the Edge pads for my Makita rotary and they work great! Pad is always on center, can switch quickly, and even have custom pads (polish on one side/finish on other). You'll never hit a finish surface with the adapters as some people may think. Perfect for weekend work now that the PC ones are avalible.

Sure, you can get the Griots. Same thing in purpose. That's all.

Some online shops have "kits" of PC, pads, backing plates, polishes etc.

You can read on detailing from several well known sites such as Autopia.org and Detailcity.org. Quite a bit in these forums and reviews.

Regards,
Deanski

The Griots' polisher looks like a Porter Cable 7424 with a different (better) handle.

I have the PC 7424, and it is a great time and labor saver. At many Meguiar's tech sessions here, they highly praise the PC and say that you really have to work hard to hurt your car's finish with this buffer.
