The Porsche USA website lists the GT3 base sticker of $ 106,000 - no options. The X51 option I believe is $16,900 and the aero kit is another $6900+ add this to the base 997S and you are at 106,400. It seems like the GT3 might be a better value all other things being equal.

many ppl compare x51 vs gt3 this way, thus end up with the WRONG car. as colm stated it more than must msrp.

first, the two car are simply different, very differnet car for different use. a quattroporte is about 110k also, should we consider that car in the mix?

two, at 106k, a stripped GT3 will not see any discount regardless of how tight you are with the dealer. at 106 a x51 will get 5-6k discount at the very very minimum.

my suggestion is drive a 997x51 and drive a 996gt3 (since 997gt3 isn't out yet) and that should be pretty obvious which car you like. if it's not obvious, then you clearly need BOTH cars

Key phrase is "all things being equal." A GT3 driver will probably find the X-51 too heavy and laden with luxury items (cruise control etc) that are unnecessary. The X-51 driver (me) will occasionally use his cruise control and actually turn off the PSE sometimes. Cash outlay is about the same but the enjoyment value may be totally different. It's nice that we can make the choice.

Since the GT3 will probably not be available for a test drive for a month or more I guess I'm left with a tough decision. Too bad the wife won't let me buy both

For my situation, I couldn't consider the GT3 because of lack of a rear seat.

I promised my wife that by trading my SL500 for a 997S, there would be room to take our daughter, so the GT3 is out. I'd still plan to take it to the track but it won't be dedicated like the M3, so I'm considering options like the PCCB and the factory fire extinguisher.

I already have a stripped down track car trailer queen that is my '99 M3 and if I ever replace that car, the GT3 (996 or 997) would be high on my list.

The only thing I wish we could get here is the option of the factory Club Sport package for the GT3 with the roll cage. I've been scanning some European dealer sites and finding 964 RS in CS specs with the roll cage, they are seriously tempting me to bring one over. It'd be even better if it's the 3.8 spec but beggers can't be choosers.

Quick Reply: 997S or GT3
