Exclamation TIMELY OPINIONS REQUESTED PLEASE

Tomorrow is the last day I have to change the order on my 07 S Coupe. I have the sport shift already on the order and according to the dealer the car will still be built with it, BUT if I make any changes to the order I lose the sport shift. I am seriously thinking of getting the new Twin Turbo forged wheels (option 404) for $890 as I think $890 for forged rims vs cast is a steal plus it will help set the car apart from all the 05's and 06's out there but I'm not too crazy about the design and finish of the Turbo's rims and if I get them the sport shift will not be a factory installed option. I welcome your thoughts.

BTW The car was ordered with 19" Carrera Classic's and is Carrara White over Black and has Sport Seats w/Crests, Sport Chrono, Instrument Surrounds in Aluminum, Self Dimming Mirrors and some other goodies.

Thanks!

If you like the wheels, then get them. Install a short shifter once you have the car. It is very easy to do and not costly... B&M about $200 (or less)... or you could get an OEM from your dealer now and have them install it prior to delivery or you install it post delivery.

I'm just not sure about the turbo's rims, sometimes I think they look good and other's not so good at all...

If you are unsure, that means you won't be proud of it. Don't get them.
You always have options later with wheels.
But you know you want the shifter!

It's what you think of the look that counts of course, but to me a non-turbo with the turbo wheels isn't very appealing. For me it just has a little "wannabe turbo" stigma attached to it.

Also, any of the wheels other than the lobsters and classics will make your car stick out more. All I ever see are lobsters and carerra classics.

Lose the Turbo wheels! Way too busy looking and they'll be a PITA to clean...

The question that I have with respect to the 997TT wheels is what their weights are. We know the weights of all the other wheels,--but what about this new forged rim?

Porsche 997 Wheels

Porsche Factory Carrera S - 100 lbs, 0 oz.

8x19" 22 lbs. 4 oz.
11x19" 27 lbs. 12 oz.

Porsche Factory Carrera Classic - 104 lbs, 10 oz.

8x19" 23 lbs. 10 oz.
11x19" 28 lbs. 11 oz.

Porsche Factory Carrera Sport Design - 104 lbs, 12 oz.

8x19" 24 lbs. 3 oz.
11x19" 28 lbs. 3 oz.

Porsche Factory Carrera Sport - 106 lbs, 12 oz.

8.5x19" 24 lbs. 2 oz.
11.5x19" 29 lbs. 4 oz.

I say if you like the turbo wheel look get them!! Porsche has offered turbo wheels (hollow or turbo look) for at least two generations of 911. And they're available on the 987 too

At best it will cost you about $2K to buy them and sell yours privately in an upgrade swap (plus the hassles of selling and shipping em, tire mounting, etc).

You can get the EOM or B&M shifter installed after delivery for less than half that.

They are forged rims, so they should be lighted and they are stronger.

Thanks so much for the feedback and pics

This is really a tough call for me!!!! I have heard from my dealer the TT rims are lightweight but when I saw a set in person (unfortunately off the car) they looked a bit like a food processor blade, maybe they just take some getting used to?

I've also read the sport shifter is notchy??? Is this true???

Here's a comp on a white S...thoughts?

I'm maybe a little late to the party, but here's my two cents' worth:

* why will the order lose the sports shifter option if you change the wheels?
* the sports shifter is something you can likely order from spare parts (other than after-market)
* Any dealer worth their salt will swap around new wheels to keep a $100K car customer happy
* I think getting forged over cast is worth considering
* resale on the Turbo wheels will be good in the short term
* having them as track wheels would be an idea

And just for the sake of it, ask for another $2K off the deal towards your replacement wheel fund. They'll agree. : )

The sport shift will no longer be a factory option but if a car is already ordered with it it will still be included but if the order is changed in any way ie; to add turbo wheels etc you loose the sport shift. What do you think about the pics above?
