Default FS: schnell cold air intake and K&N filter

I put my K&N cold air intake in (thanks vivid).
So I have the schnell tube and plug (like fabspeed $225 part)
and a K&N filter for sale.
paid alittle over $200 for both and would like to get $120 shipped.

tube is wrapped in black to make it less conspicous (previously orange) but can be returned to original.

Is this the stock K&N filter to fit a 2006 997S? What is the purpose of replacing the air intake tube and capping the little tube coming from the air box?

The "plug" eliminates the sound reducing effect of the helmholz resonator on the intake box.

So, can I just take out the resonator in the stock box? I use to love the intake sound of my 01 Boxsters and my 997S does not have any intake sound.

I've only seen comments on how to plug it - duct tape, rubber plug, etc. Don't know how or if it can be remeoved. Let us know if you find out.

The S intake has a pleasing (to my ear) moan that the standard model doesn't. You can easily hear the difference at Barber. Why would you want to remove the resonator?

gpjli2, not sure I want to but they said it is a resonator to quiet the intake noise. I have Fabspeed mufflers but I'd like to hear some intake noise too I guess. I read in a review from Ruf that the stock Porsche 997S airbox is actually the best cold air box to flow air than anything else they look at. Ruf would know I take it. The K&N filter is of interst to me and I was wondering about the intake pipe and how it worked better than the stock one with the small tube (resonator) to the air box.

you can cap off the resonator like jbrehnan said, and get the same sound that this tube and cap give.
i have no idea if or how this intake kit works better than the stock, you can watch the fabspeed videos for further explanations.
I can sell you the K&N filter separately if you dont want the cold air kit.
what do you think of the fabspeed exhaust?

raffi, I like the Fabspeed mufflers. They sound really good. I would like to hear Tubi, Cargraphic and Techart too and there seems to be a lot of nice mufflers out there for the 997 and it gets very confusing. I went with Fabspeed because I needed something quick and something that has gotten great reviews from this and a few other boards. I heard PSE, Fab and went with Fab.

How much for the K&N filter? Will it fit the stock airbox on my 2006 997S?
thanks! Mike

yeah it will fit the stock airbox in either a 997 or 996.
they go for $70 shipped on ebay.
if you'd like mine ill sell it separately for $50 shipped.
i have heard that the PSE is louder than fab, did you hear them both in person and with the pse without the cutoff?
also off topic, are you a pro drummer? i have been messing around with drums and got a tama starclassic set, also play the djembe

raffi, I used to play professionally for many years. Lived in LA and then Nashville. I got off the road and have worked for Pearl in the early to mid 90's, Paiste for 10 years and DW drums for the last 7 years. I now only work for DW and there Pacific series of drums, they keep me very busy! I manage a sales territory and am a product specialist. I travel a lot and am in and out of a a lot of music stores.
If you ever want to go see DW up in Oxnard it's worth the trip and they will give you a nice tour. It is an amazing place to see all the hand work and details that go into DW drums and hardware.

raffi, I need to go look at my intake tube to see if there is another smae vacum line coming off of it. I have a Tiptronic and was told the cold air kits will not work because there is some type of vacuum line for the tranny. I looked a few weeks ago and swore I did not see one but I need to check again. If I do not have it I will buy your cold air hose and filter from you. Just waiting for the wifey to get home.
