Default Old Porsche-VW Ad

I found this in a thread on 6Speed (Vikki). An old ad showing two of those peculiar rear engine design cars!!!

Dear Mrs. Kaui Diver,

Due to rising gas prices we had to implement some cost-cutting measures. Unfortunately, this means that we won't be able to get your husband his present this year.

He has been a good boy -- well, he did screw up once by publicly admitting to a Porsche forum that he doesn't know basic information about his car's pedigree -- but we still believe he deserves a Christmas gift this year. We would like to ask you to help us out by getting him "Porsche: Excellence Was Expected", the definitive book on the history of the Porsche marque. This book will teach him everything he needs to know about Porsches, including the Porsche 356 Speedster.

Here is a photo of the book as well as a link to Amazon.com to help you in your shopping. We really appreciate your help and wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.

Amazon.com Link

Sincerely,

S. Claus

P.S. Coochas, nice picture! Thanks for sharing.

Dear Mr. Claus:

As usual, your heart's in the right place, but maybe you should keep a copy of Excellence Was Expected for yourself. I don't think the Porsche shown in that photo is a Speedster. There actually seems to be enough head room for a nearly 6-footer to drive without wearing through the canvas with the top of his head.

Dear Mr. Claus.
I'm poor, please get me a copy of that book, ASAP
I haven't been a good boy, but I'll bite you the next time I see you at the mall if I do not get it.

not so fast there big guy!
now you got to name the model!!!
no expert myself on 356's but just did a little net searching and
my guess is a pre-a 356 cab model year somewhere b/t 1950-54.
pic is not too good but if that windsheild is two-piece that would
narrow the production down to 1950-april of '52
speedster's didnt start production until late 1954,
and as you posted windsheild is too tall.
the windsheild also having the crease in the middle giving
it a v-shape leaves out the possibilty that it could be a speedster,
since they all had curved windsheilds.
the turn signals take out production years '50-'52 so now we are down to
either 1953 or 1954, single piece bent windshield
can't see the presence of a small grill around the turn signals.
that would mean it could only be a 1953 pre-a 356.
all that leaves to determine is if it is a cab, convert., or roadster.
speedsters didnt start production until 1954, convertibles 1959, and roadsters 1960.
so what we have here is a 1953 porsche 356 cabriolet.
