Take note that the Open Water cert. only SUGGESTS you not go deeper than 130 ft. It should be based upon your experience and conditions.

Let's go! And bring a wrench!

Here's another shot. Looks to have fuel leaking or something. Jeez what do they do about this?

lol. Being that I only have Open Water cert, that speaks volumes to my experience! Actually, I have 14 dives under my belt, but venturing into the belly of that ship, while its on its side or upside down, may just be slightly beyond my comfort level. I would bring a dive knife if that would help, in case i need to widdle my way through the hull in case I need to surface!

There was another car carrier that went down in the North Sea back in Dec 02

Full of BMWs, Volvo's and MINIs as I recall - all 2,862 cars lost.

Got hit by another ship and went to the bottom.

Here a WEBSITE that covers the recovery.

yes - they went back and got the ship and all the cars, and scrapped the lot!

Could happen with this new one..

Chris.

i've always wondred wat hppened to cars wen they are scrapped. when they are crushed into a cube, do they melt them down again and recycle the metal? same question about plastics like the bags that parts come in...some of it just seems so waistful.

holy crap, look, grow up, you may not like me for whatever reason, as established in previous posts, but you're showing a truly childish attitude.

Usually cars are shredded - magnets pick up the metal bits from the plastic on a conveyor belt - remember these shards are no bigger than your fist.
the plastics continue down the conveyor belt where they're then seperated from other things like wood, leather, rubber - this is all melted down and recycled.
same with the metal, different metal is seperated out, recycled

A porsche is something like 87% recyclable

Our news reported that 1400 Mitsubishi's were due to be unloaded at the Port of Seattle from this ship.

BMW lost cars on another ship a couple of years ago. Those guys have got to be really annoyed! I'd be sick to think of any M5's sitting at the bottom of the ocean!

I'll bet there's going to be a lot of scrap metal loose below decks. Man, that sucks. I know that the cars are lashed to the deck, but an 80 degree list is a bit outside of parameters for the tie-downs, I'd think.

Then again, there's a possibility that the rather horrid list is _due_ to cars breaking loose and piling up on the low-side. I feel bad about this, but thank goodness there were no P-cars on board, and that the crew is off safely. I'd hate to be their insurance agent.

What a waste!

Okay, okay!! No more jokes about sinking vessels!!! (Mine is finally on one!)

But I would be prepared to go after it,--it would make some great P-shots!

Open Water Only,--but with hundreds of dives (dive weekly).
