Default Tubi Mufflers

I've been looking into a lot of mufflers for my new 997 C2S Cab. My dealer sells the PSE and Tubi and highly recomends the Tubi. However the Tubi with install I was quote $2800!!!!!! YIKES! I see that the Fabspeed mufflers are nice too and only around $1500 w/ tip and install labor would be around $300...so with Fabspeed I save $1000 easy.

Any comments on this?

I have changed out exhaust on my boat and on a friends Vette. What is involved to do this myself? A few wrenches and a rubber hammer?

thanks, Mike

Do it yourself. It is very easy. An 11 and 13 mm socket. I would look at AWE instead of Fabspeed $1195 w/o tips. Another nice exhaust is supersprint for $1639.00 minus tips.

florindi, why do you like AWE over Fabspeed or Tubi? What is your take on build quality and sound of these mufflers?

thanks! Mike

I like tubi, but the price make no sense. You are paying for the name because they make exhausts for Ferrari. I have AWE and for the price they are excellent and sound good. The fabspeed it great quality, but people have complained about its sound characteristics.

Oh I forgot Supersprint. I had this exhaust for my M3. They make a great product and I bet they will sound about the same as my AWE due to the construction. The tubi I heard was for a Cayman S. It sounded great but is much louder than AWE.

Lots of AWE people on here. I like the way the Fabspeed seems to be built and I take it the AWE isbuilt just as well? All of themfrom the sound bites on the internet sound good.

I just do not want any loud cabin resonance...loud outside good, lound and smooth insdie or when the top is down...good, BUT no super loudat only a certain rpm...no good.

thanks, Mike

I have the Tubi. As to the price...we were all crazy to pay as much as we did for the car in the first place. I think the Tubi is loud enough but not too loud. My dealer promised to remove it at no charge if I did not like it. Others sound like the kid in the Honda with the big muffler and tail pipe just about as large. I like it at cruise, it is not loud. It makes the car much more fun to drive. On the track you can tell if you are driving smoothly by listning to the sounds of the engine. I would do it again. Call 727 527-1111 at Bert Smith Porsche and ask for Mike or Dan in Porsche parts. They will get you a sound track of the Tubi.

997 X PO BOX, Any chance I can hear you car? I live right across the bay. Are there any type of Porsche gatherings for our area? I heard the Tubi sound track that Chapion sent me but listening to exhaust sounds over the internet is no where near the same as in person.
thanks, Mike

Yep and that is just a simple muffler swap out. I was quoted another $200 ($500) to insall PSE mufflers. WTF...I will probably order some Fabspeed for $1095 and lay down on the garage floor and swap them out my self. How hard can it be?
I've learned you can get a deal on a car at the Porsche dealer but when it come to buying some accessories and installation they will try and rip you off real fast.

Talking PSE W/O Cut-Off

I have a '05 997 Carrera S that has a PSE system installed by the dealer three weeks after I took delivery 9 months ago. It's not just the mufflers that produce the awesome sound. The PSE system has larger diameter pipes leading from the headers to the PSE mufflers. The other interesting dynamic of the system when installed by the factory is the 4,000 RPM cut-off of the by-pass.

If you purchase the PSE and have the dealer install the sytem state side they can install the system with the baffle by-pass on ALL THE TIME !!! The sound is moderately loud however at cruising speads on the highway ( 75-80 MPH ) the sound is not obtrusive, I run my car at the track and at Watkins Glenn up thru the esses at 130 MPH the sound track is truly awesome.

Do yourself a favor and have your dealer or Porsche Garage install the PSE system with the system on at all times.
