i just saw a s600 by MB corporate in woodcliff lake or montvale and the guy worked for MB corporate. he told me he would do a s550 over cls but I heard the resale sucks on s class mercedes. the s550 is like 90 grand so forget that, I would rather have a 997s and take the train into the city...

For a GT car, I'd go with a new aluminum Jaguar XK or wait for the 420 hp XKR.

As a side note, AMG's new 6.2 liter V-8 weighs 439 pounds which is 90 pounds less than BMW's 5.0 liter V-10.

My first post over here:

My uncle, like myself is a HUGE Porsche fanatic his entire life, his first car was a Porsche and he deferred to Jag for a while and has been back to P for about 5 years (last 4 cars have been 993 cab, 996 cab, 996 cab and 997 coupe).

Anyway, i only highlight that info to show how much he loves his wife's new sl550 ann. edition - he tries to steel it on a regular basis. I drove it a couple of times and the thing has so much torque it is amazing. It is extremely smooth and a very competant car for what it is - a cruiser. My one and only complaint is that the steering is extremely light compared to the Porsche, which i have driven extensively.

Lovely car, love the ann. interior and color, but i would take a P-car over it anyday,

Josh.

The trouble with MB's is that they depreciate. It's due in part because of the reliability issues since joining hands with Chrysler. My CL500 was worth half of what I paid for it after a year and 15k miles later. I had an 03 SL500 which was a disappointment. Obviously they have improved them since then. You pay for those big AMG engines look at the prices.

MB's are not the cars that they built 20 years ago. People like me now swear by Porsche. There is an old saying by MB mechanic's. "We used to make great cars, now we just make a lot of money"
