Smile Rusted Rotor Hats 10 Bucks & 2.5 hrs. later. What a difference.

It rained most of the day in South Florida. I figured it was a good day to get rid of the rust on the Rotor Hats. I used VHT Brake Cailper,Drum, & Rotor paint part #
SP-735 Cast Aluminum. I didn't clear them because the VHT clear is high gloss. IMHP the finish has just enough of a sheen to it. I think it will clean and wear well.

Looks terrific! I did the same thing, the paint I used had a zinc oxide formula which helps control rust.

Unfortunately, that is something that you will have to do periodically. Heat generated in there will seriously limit the life of that paint. Mine have those 'hats' of stainless steel.

B/T - I believe that the PCCB's come with stainless steel "hats." I noticed them (the SS "hats") on the 997 Turbo I saw last week at the local P-dealer Turbo launch party.

That looks solidly stud. I was to do this job yesterday, but I got a case of the lazys and did nothing instead. The life span of the paint will be partially determined by whether you track the car. If you drive it on the street, it will last for years. I did my last 996 and it held up great. I like the paint and finish--buying in to the program today!!

I dunno, I'm thinking the opposite... . If I ever get around to it (which I won't), I'd like to see the hubs and the inner perimeter of the wheel painted black; easier to look at especially when not cleaned

Can someone with the stainless steel versions post a picture? If they look good and are more durable, I just might pick up some from the dealership and replace mine.

BTW, looks great Craig. You'll have to post (or at least PM) a report 3, 6 & 9 months down the road to let us know how your paint is holding up on them.

The intense heat burns off the rather thin paint they put on them plus moisture, rain and washes and you've got yourself some rust. I hate it. You have these nice wheels all polished-up with a rusty looking hat. Gotta fix it.

It's been amazing how the PCCBs attract all the Germans! They all have to come look at them!

For anyone planning to paint the hats; make sure you use a paint with zinc oxide that's also a high heat paint and there should not be any issues down the road...

What paint do you have in mind, specifically.
