You mean she didn't want a 997 for her birthday?

O.C. BEN: We looked at a black/black 996 2003 with only 20,000 miles, but we both thought had too much power for a young girl. She liked the conv. top on the SLK more than the 911 coupe anyway. lol

MMD.....while I partially agree with that it doesn't hold entirely true. I bought my 911 with financing since I got it at 2.9% through Porsche Financial. That was a "cheap" loan and allowed me to use my liquidity for other aspects. Funny enough I just sent them a check yesterday to pay off the note since I was tired of seeing that debit each month not to mention, dealing with Porsche Financial is the worst experience! I plan to pay cash for my GT3 later this summer and be done with it.

Umm, why would you get a car loan for 5.49%?? I haven't paid over 3% for a car loan in many many years. Try someone like Bank of America. They are normally in the 2.5 - 2.9% range on used car loans up to 72 months.
Another good option for used cars is the Light Stream service from SunTrust. They are unique in that they offer low rate personal loans for cars. Usually in the 2-3% range.

This is an area of consumer finance that is grossly underregulated and rife with errors, inconsistencies and abuses. In many respects the system is broken. Reform is badly needed, but Congress can't appoint an assistant dog catcher in Paducah, let alone address this. I suggest local smaller institutions like credit unions, where some personal relationship with the decision maker is possible and specific issues with a credit score can be identified, contextualized and discussed rationally.
