Default pcm temperature cutoff protection

anybody gotten this message "pcm temperature cutoff protection" on your pcm screen?
comes on, chimes with message and auto's off the pcm!
outside tempurature 75 degrees and cold engine!
nothing but trouble so far with my pcm and nav!
now i'll have to put it back in the shop for a day or two and then maybe have to wait on parts and take it back again!
they do have a used 2003 996tt that would make a nice loaner!

Icon - I haven't seen it, but someone reported earlier that the fix was a PCM headunit replacement... $7,900 - thank goodness for warrantee work...

I only remember this because the cost was so outrageous. Hope your issue is simpler to fix!

I had the exact same problem almost a year ago when I bought my car.
I posted photos of the message hoping to find a quick solution. No luck, the car had to go back to service.

The dealer had sent the wrong Nav-tech dvd, and all along the right one was in the trunk of the car.
Service dpt reset the pcm and inserted the right DVD. Since then I have not had a problem.

It is in the trunk bundled up with the front license plate bracket, spare keys and it is in a silver box with Porsche emblem on it

This box contains the Porsche Design Catalogue and the Nav-tech dvd.

Reviving this post since it came on my screen yesterday, facts: i always listen to music cds (so that is constantly running), was on an 8 hour trip (happened 5 hours in) with little stops for gas, drive was in 105 degree heat, AC was on max set to low (i know but hot as he11), 2006 4S. Any suggestion, thanks.

I had this happen in my 08 C2s and it ended up that the dealer put the wrong Nav Disc in. Once they sent me the right disc it started working perfectly.

If your car has the trunk air conditioner then the PCM should not get hot. 106F the other day and my car was fine.

Thanks for the replies. It has only acted up once (5 hours into that trip) afterwards no issues after shutting the car off, then back on again. Today no issues. I suspect as others have stated heat at extended lengths.
