Buddy, you steal a bike, you ride it into a pawn shop and it's gone. By the way, there was a recent theft ring here involving a bunch of pawnshops that shipped bikes from calgary to BC and bikes from BC to calgary.
Just take out the small oubvious things like cash, cell phones, cameras - that's what I did. For an extra measure, leave the glovebox and center console hanging open and a note in the vehicle window saying that all valuables have been removed

What is the shipping cost?
About $1,600.00

If I drive, it's about 2,100 miles and 4 days.

Way I see it, it'll be a great experience, and you'll make some good memories!
As well i believe somewhat in fate, if it's going to be broken into it's going to be broken into, if it's going to get a ding, well that can happen just as easily locally.
No matter what hotel you'[re staying in either park it near the front doors overnight, in sight, or in front of a video camera.

Well, I really don't think Dario's intent here was to do as politicians do and let a poll make up his mind. I think his intent was to get all the views that he can on the pros and cons of driving it back home or shipping it so he can take everything into consideration when making his decision.

If the engine were already broken-in, and he had the time to do the drive, then he might well be leaning toward those who favor driving it home, MJones being chief among them.

But since the engine is new and will require the recommended break-in regimen for the first 2000 miles, FlyingLow's viewpoints make logical sense.

So. ..... Dario, what's it gonna be? .... Drumroll please!

All the responses were excellent, but the above response hit the nail on the head for me.

I am interested in driving US-160 West through the Colorado mountains as suggested earlier. The little towns along US 36 are intriguing, as I have always enjoyed finding similar types of towns when I used to ride very long distances on my touring bike.

Last year I took my family in my F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 diesel to Indiana and back. What a great time it was seeing our beautiful country. Driving has always been very relaxing to me.

If I can find someone to go with I would be very inclined to, and most likely would drive. If I had to go it alone, I think I would opt for shipping; although I could picture myself hopping in the P-car anyway after seeing it and heading "west young (old) man!".

You mean you don't have a female companion for the trek?
You might want to go online and advertise that you're looking for a hot female companion for a cross-country ride out west, all expenses paid, submit pic please with your reply. ... Oh, must be at least 18. And preferably no more than that.

I did Route 66 twice (with modifications 2nd time) before and would only suggest it if you're into motorway history. If you want natural scenic drives, you are enroute for some awesome drives, if you are willing to make some detours.
I would start on the I80, go down to the great river road down to Missouri and the little dixie highway, shoot across on the I70 to the wetlands in Kansas, continue on the I70 until you hit CO then take the 50 south through Black Canyon NP and then continue south to the 550 through Ouray and the area which has some stunning views of the million dollar highway. Then connect to the 491 down to the I40 to Cibola National Forest. Then you should know the way home from there.
Alternatively, if you have the time, head on I80 to I25 and Yellowstone NP. Then jump into Montana to unleash the 997 at 100+mph befone heading down I15 towards home. Much longer and the drive isn't as fun but there's the no limit speeding in Montana.
Enjoy if you do drive. $1600 can buy almost 500 gals of gas and the satisfaction of having driven your car in some awesome scenic routes.
As for breaking in the engine, well plenty of opportunity to pump that pedal for overtaking, windy roads and speed runs. You can also check out the break in threads for some humor and ideas.

That's probably before gas was $3 a gallon.

They are now charging fuel "surcharges."

Any female looking like the ones in THPorsche's Avitar would do just fine.
