Here's a picture of roof rack which may be helpful. IMO, I'd buy the Porsche one and just bite the bullet costwise. You knew the associated costs were gonna be extreme when you bought the car, no use searching for bargains now.

Vancouver, you are correct. I rode (and raced some) mountain bikes during grad school. Absolutely loved it and felt roadies were snobs. Now that my kids are old enough to allow me to ride again, a friend got me on the road. I love both - road and mountain. It doesn't really matter as long as I can get out. The road bike looks better on the 911, but I'm willing to put the MTB up their if a trip comes my way.

Got to a couple of stages of the Tour de Georgia this week and road some of the course. The elevation stages, especially at Brasstown Bald are a killer! I'll attempt to attach the ultimate winner and runner up from that stage - Danielson and Landis.

I have the hitch but do not know how to post the picture. BTW I make mine out of Stainless Steel and polish it, so it does not look bad. 10 min on and off and fits behind the lic. plate so when it is not there nothing shows. Those who have an intrest email me and I will send a picture. I had this one made and have to have an order for at least 5 to make more. I do not know a price yet. Trailer light wireing is easy and I can supply that information too. This is not my business.

I dunno I don't see them as snobs, it just isn't my thing currently. I also don't find it terribly comfortable, and all I have is a full face so I'd look pretty lame on a roadbike, ahahaha
By the way, meaker did you get my pm's a few nights ago?

I've had the OEM roof rack on my 996 Targa for the last two years. It's fine, and allows you to bring both your bike and p-car to races, favorites rides, etc...which is a real treat. Beware wind noise however. Thule now has a fairing that will slide into the OEM rack. Not particularly attractive, especially with a set of cheap plastic ***** that show above the fairing, but the thing works and is worth getting. I have been thinking about having my brother, a sign painter, match the color to my car and add Porsche lettering. Can't understand why Porsche goes to the trouble of offering a roof rack for our toys but stops short of an attractive fairing.

I have Yakima. The system fits really nice to existing four holes.

This is direct quote from etrailer.com but I bought mine from a local shop. Also, I bought a bike tray for around $80. I really like it.

Happy to hear the original equipment works. I bought the roof rack from a fellow Rennlister and got the bike carrier witha gift card the dealer gave out last year, but have been taking the easy path and using my SUV for the bike. I like the look of a 997 with a bike on top.
