Exclamation Oil Temp sensor fault

When I received this message, I would get no oil temp reading at all. This fault was intermittent, so later I did get a temp reading.

I'm glad this was a warranty fix. Apparently the oil temp sensor is combined with the remote oil level sensor. The combined unit is quite long - in fact it is so long that the header has to be removed in order to get the sensor unit out of the engine (and it just barely clears the engine bay). It took the tech almost 5 hours to replace the sensor unit. Somehow oil got into a part of the sensor where it didn't belong, which caused it to fail.

Anyone else have their oil temp sensor fail?

I was told that this is the first time they've seen the oil temp sensor fail. Hopefully it doesn't have anything to do with my driving habits.

My oil temperature gauge just quit reading at OT. Dealer fixed under warranty. Happened <500 mi. on car- Sept. 04-no other issues since then-have done the minor recalls including the tips. Car now has 6400 mi.
