Default Alternatives to electronic logbook

I was watching Motorweek today and saw some gadget they plug into the OBD connector to capture performance data. I REALLY wanted the electronic logbook feature, but was too cheap to pay for the nav when you can buy a laptop for what Porsche charges.

What are some of the things you have used or tried for things like this and how do they work? Have you tried it with a 997?

My electronic logbook? A digital photo of the screen at the end of a journey.

Ha ha - i'm looking for a little more data than that - i.e., top speed, data for start / stops (engine on / off), any anything else (data is good ) etc...

Ha ha - nah, I want a little more info than that since I'm generally focusing on driving and not on what my top speed is.

Here's what Motorweek uses:

I'm thinking about getting something like this for track use, not for everyday use as I wouldn't want to have it in my car in the event of an accident and have it used against me in court!
