If you want black wheels, check these RG5's out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...QQcmdZViewItem

I have silver RG5's and love them. Otherwise, this seller seems to have a constant supply of new takeoff wheels and suggest you watch his listings on ebay or contact him. You might also buy some new takeoff lobster forks and have them painted. (Never did business with this seller so can't attest, but see a lot of his ebay listings.)

I tried to like the S but eventually changed to the Classics - very happy with the Classic look.
You are right the Sports only have one rear offset, but I believe it's 67

I'll have the lobsters, please. Unfortunately, the Carrera Sport XRR wheels are heavier by 24 oz./rear and 30 oz./front per wheel.

My theory is the majority of people who like them just got them with the car and, because of the influence of ownership, are compelled to like them.

I would looooove to someday find out the office politics explaining how those wheels wound up on the 997S car. They just seem better, rugged and sturdy for the Cayenne.

I didn't like the lobsters at first, as I thought they were too bulky or busy with the extra 5 holes cut out of the center. Although I've grown accustomed to them, I've been thinking about changing wheels. Today, however, I saw a set of them on a Boxter, and it was the first time that I'd been able to see what the wheels look like while moving. And I've got to admit that I liked the way they looked rolling at slow speed. So I think that I'll stop looking for replacement wheels for now.

saw the wheels on a 997 painted black to match the car at the local dealer a few weeks ago. i just went to the website to see if the picture was still up but they must have sold it because no more picture. i'm not a big fan of the painted wheels and seeing it on this car at the dealer only reinforced it. i think the wheels should be noticed so fwiw, i'd say don't paint!

The Lobster Wheel is the only way to go. It looks new and has a solid look to the wheel. They are easy to clean, for the most part..-

My theory is that you don't like them and are not paying attention to what people are saying in their posts.

Reviewed everybody's posts. No change in view.

Basically the thread is totally un-scientific.

Consumer psychology would tend to support the hypothesis that once people own/buy something they tend to be loyal to it. My original claim, that the wheels are mostly "liked" because they come with the car unless otherwise specified is not unreasonable. It's easier to buy the car with the specifically upscale S wheels and then claim to like them, than it is to decide against the wheels and choose from the other options.
