Default 993 vs. 997

I have the last of the air cooled 993s - the 1996 Carrera c4. I am contemplating a trade-in for the new 997 C4S. But I have seller's remorse - I love my old car, but my wife thinks it's no longer safe, no extra airbags, etc. How do people like the new 997? How does it compare to the 993? C4 to C4? I test drove one today and I must admit it was more luxurious. However, in one of the turns it was not nearly as stable as my old 993. Would love to have your inputs.

I've had the opportunity to drive a 993 (black C2 1998) numerous times. I love the 993. In fact the reason I bought a 997 instead of a 996 is the small phyiscal details that reminded me of the 993. That being said, I find the 997 a very statble car and more so than the 993. Stability can mean different things to different people (some like oversteer, some understeer) and we both might be confusing familiarity with stability. I know the feel of my car and how it handles but don't have enough seat time in a 993 to have the same confidence. I'm sure that the more you drive the 997 C4 the more you'll love it...but why not keep both?

I guess nothing beats new, go for the 997, a great car with a long life ahead of it.

I have a similar dilemma: I've driven a 993 coupe for the last 8 years and I absolutely love it! I love the performance and the handling, the sound and, perhaps most of all, I love the way it looks. I'm afraid that the only way I have found to reconsile these mixed emotions of 993 vs 997 is to just keep both - despite the protestations of my better half. Sadly, however, I must let the 993 go and I know it's just a matter of time before I come to accept the selling of my beloved coupe. It's something I just keep putting off, however!

Wolfgang - Ben must be on vacation. It's nice that you stepped up and covered this for him!

I'm afraid we all have a little Ben in us.

(And that's meant to be a compliment Ben.)

Find a superlow mileage 993 twin turbo which is about the same $ as a new 997 and keep all the aircooled goodness along with the new found power.

And I actually find myself in the same dilemma as Ben (I think)... you try to be helpful but it somewhat looks and sounds as if you are being an a$$...

As a 993 owner, 997 probable-waiter, I have been reading the 993 vs 997 posts. While I have always liked the 993's simple elegance, especially from the side view, I just realized what it is. Overbite or orthodontically enhanced? I grew up with overbite spoprts cars (before ground effects were supposed to be an issue for street-legal cars). If the 997 had an overbite it truly would be an updated 993. As it is, it continues the ortho looks of the 996. Is this crazy ranting or does anyone else feel similarly?

Overbite?
you mean, overbite as in the nose is more rounded out at the bottom?

Yep, I resemble that remark.

Wolfgang, you make me proud. That's all I gotta say.

Actually with your avatar it looks better when you cite the referenced links. Makes it look like the dunce student is made to write on the blackboard:

Wolfgang - It "appears" that you understood my comment was totally in jest and was not intended as a slam to either you or Ben. I was not intimating that you were being an A$$, but was, in a “guy humor" sort of way (as my wife calls it), commending you for helping the guy out. If you took it any other way, I apologize!
