We have them and use them on the 996 and 997s but mostly to hang the Moton resevoir/cannisters Both the stock 996/997 come with factory strut bracing so the general consensus you'll hear is that "it's not needed like on the older cars". However, the Peterson White Lightning Race team rebuilt their GT3 RS cup car in front of us over a year ago and sure enough they had this very strut brace in there: http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=17
I have the 997 ones also (slightly different) and they're a very nice piece etc.. However I would be fibbing if I told you I noticed a difference Sorry if I'm being too honest here...
How about for a convertible? There is a lot of flex on mine. I would like to cut that down but like this thread shows the strut bar may not be the answer. This car lost a lot of structural integrity when the top was cut off.

strut tower bar AND a custom nice looking roll bar will do wonders.
"top was cut off"
what kind of convertible do you have?
997 cab is pretty stiff!
997S Cab. And it is not as stiff as the corvette convertible it replaced. Don't get me wrong this a great car but it was not designed as a rag top from the get go like the vette was. Which is why there is a large weight dif. between cpe and cab. They had to do a lot of reinforcing on the body once the top came off. But it still has a lot of flex, mirrors that vibrate, side windows that wiggle when the top is down and the windows up etc... Still a much better car then the vette just one thing that needs to be tweaked to finish it off.
strut bar is not going to help the conv. deal... strut bar is and was designed to keep front "struts" from flexing under cornering load... look under your hood the look at an older 911... you will see a engineered strut in place... dont be sold on strut bar for a 997...
the do make a great place to put your hangers on ofr you dry cleaning when u put it in the trunk

Sorry, but I can't help but think your imagining things. Did you know that Porsche designed and built prototypes of the 997 as a cabriolet first and THEN added the top when they had a cabriolet with no torsional flex? Much of what they learned when building the Carrera GT was applied.
The 997 is the first time Porsche has done this on a 911 and based on the success they had with the 997 (because it made the coupe even more rigid) that it will likely be done in the future.

Actually the C5 cab only weighs about 3300lbs if I remember right. They were one of the strongest conv. when they first hit the market in 98. Know keep in mind on a good road the 911 feels great. Hit a pot hole or pull into a drive way that is steep and you need to approach on an angle you can feel the flex. It may be do to the area that is open is very large from a pillar to the back of the opening. I do not want to get caught up in another 911 vs vette thread. I have seen enough of those on vette and porsche forums to last a life time. This is just my observation. When it comes to build quality, fit and finish there is no comparison the 911 wins all the way.
I know the porsche web site shows both cpe and cab weighing in at 3131lbs but the I remember seeing somewere the cab actually weighing in at about 3300+ This is why a cab is a little slower then the cpe. But we are splitting hairs here. Next time you are driving around and you hit a bump in the road or even more so on the freeway going over those wonderful joints in the road check your rear view mirror for the shakes. Maybe its just me but I see it. Good thing the full leather doesn't rub together the way the plastic did in the vette
Sorry Icon you may not have ever noticed if I didn't open my mouth.
Ronmart Amen to that I can not open a griots mailer without going .. I got to get me one of those... to what ever page i'm on. When all else fails there is always beer
