Default Who wins the 0-60?

For the sake of a good discussion and perhaps getting some real numbers...

Weight to hp ratio consideration. Does anyone know what your average fully optioned 997 weigh (or who cares)?

On the green light which 997 would win the 0-60... (a stock 997c2 with ssk (stock 0-60 4.8) or average optioned 15-20K range 997cS (non-x51) (stock 0-60 4.6)?

I know there are variables, but lets be realistic.

-Both drivers weight the same and no passengers.
-Both drivers are proficient with the short shifter (only option on the stock 997c2)

Remember don't kill the messenger!

This is a trick question. Obviously the Cayman (0-60: 5.2) wins.

I'm not sure but I bet that the C6 Z06 would beat either one.

That's very probably. That Z06 is ridiculously powerful.

Not sure how many of you noticed this but the times on the new turbo are as follows:

997 turbo with tiptronic transmission 0-60: 3.4 seconds
997 turbo with manual transmission 0-60: 3.7 seconds

Source www.porsche.com website.

I confess to knowing little about mechanics. I thought that manual transmission pretty much beats automatic 99%+ of the time with acceleration. Those of you who are more mechanically inclined please comment.

Yes, but only because of it's superb aerodynamics.

Good question for teenagers with learner's permits fantasizing about which car they would get if they had the money.

Also no expert here, but the tippy is probably more consistent than manual...that is there are probably times a proficient driver can get more out of the car hitting the correct shift points, but this is probably not accomplished as often as an automated system. Ah, but the shifting is half the fun (IMO)...no offense intended.

I'm old school... the use of aluminum and special magnesium castings by Porsche prove to me that they still focus on building them as light as possible. Less weight equal more speed and all the advantages that come from having a power to weight ratio that is proven to provide speed, braking, and handling. I would love to get ALL those great options, but I feel that those options would easily hit around 100lbs (speculation). So, I think that lighter is better. The lighter car with the best weight to HP ratio will be the faster 0-60 times. Of course this is ALL speculation but I think it has merit, if not, Porsche would not be so concern about weight reduction materials. Porsche is very proud of thier commitment to be lighter (the little giant killer).

It's not physically possible for a human to shift as fast as the tip can. Therefore the tip is quicker then a manual with all that power planted behind your ***.

The dealer: replacing all those clutches burned out by testosterone fuelled ricers who can't think beyond 5 seconds. The measure is a total irrellevance in the real world, so why bother obsessing over it?

That makes sense especially for me being new to the shifting world. However I believe that if you look at the #s for tips on the other 997's both RWD and AWD they lose to manual shifting (by someone other than me no doubt)

But I agree manual transmission is a blast and for anyone reluctant to get it for fear of the learning curve.... it is simple and fun. Do yourself a favor and get a bluetooth headset for calls however.
