Default X51... Tell me what you know.

My dealer told me X51 is currently stopped with no published date for resumption. He estimated it would be April or May before they begin again but that was pure S.W.A.G. on his part I believe. Nonetheless, he took my order and deposit for a 997S with X51.

I'd like to hear from any/everyone else who's been told why X51 was halted and when it's expected to resume. I also sent a letter to PCNA headquarters asking for details and updates. No word back yet but I'll be sure to post if/when I hear from them.

I'm a bit concerned that my March 4 order will result in a September or later delivery of a 2006 vehicle. By then, 2007 will be under way although it would be irrelevant. I don't think I would survive 6+ months of waiting

What happens when they begin 2007 models and have yet to deliver a 2006 vehicle? Do I get the 07 for the same price?

Thanks,

MC

Many of your questions have been dealt with and answered in prior posts regarding the production hold on the X51 powerkit package. I recall that when the Cayenne went from MY 03 to MY04 the ordered cars during the 03 MY were delivered as MY04. There was no bump in price as MY 03 and MY04 had same base price. I would doubt that will be the case with the 997.
Only if you received a copy of your pro forma invoice from PCNA listing your car with your options including X51 is your car actually on order. I believe at this point in time the dealer E-DCS will not accept a car with X51 so I am not sure how your dealer "took your order"

As of 3/13/6, my x51 car is on vessel!! I ordered it on 11/1 and it was delayed about 2 months from the original build date.

My dealer said they are NOT accepting orders, but are accepting deposits when x51 becomes available again.

I hope they dont try to dicker with my 4k discount on my car!!!

He joked that they would be interested in buying back my car from me.

I personally think the x51 is not going to be made available again because its got more torque and displacement than the gt3.

I think it won't be made available again because at that price point people are surely looking for a TT.

My car, nicely optioned, is 107k and the gt3 and tt will be more than that with options, the TT will be 25k more.

If the gt3 was available now, I would prolly switch to it though.

Default Boolala - I belive you are misinformed

You wrote: "I think it won't be made available again because at that price point people are surely looking for a TT"

That statement assumes many facts not in evidence. First, I want NOTHING to do with all-wheel drive. I have no interest in a turbo. My 997S with PCCB brakes and X51 power package, sports seats, full leather and sport chrono is $106k after dealer discount and weighs in at 3200 pounds.

A 997 Turbo with no options weighs a WHOPPING 3520 pounds and has a BASE PRICE (according to the Porsche Germany website) of 133,603 Euros or... take a deep breath... I hope you are sitting down.... $159,614 US Dollars. That means for 51% more money (yes, 51%), I'll get a power to weight improvement of 13% and won't have PCCB to boot.

I wanted the most powerful naturally aspirated, rear wheel drive 911 I could buy. I considered the more powerful GT3 but can't handle that rear wing at my age. So, by default, I spec'd a 997S with exactly what I wanted. I could have afforded a turbo but, I don't like the way they sound, don't want all-wheel-drive, don't want the extra weight and can't justify the 50% price increase.

I'm using the price posted on the Porsche website for German delivery. The U.S. website does not provide a build sheet or pricing for the 997 Turbo at this time.

Regardless, I stand by my rationale. The Turbo is for a different type of driver who is less "purist" and more interested in buying the top of the line car with all the bells and whistles.

Turbo pricing from the Porsche website shows the following:

Germany: 133,603 Euros = $159,614
Spain: 148,326 Euros = $178,316
Great Britain: 95,923 Pounds = $167,510

If in fact the U.S. will get the car for $122,900, that seems like a heck of a deal relative to the rest of the world, or at least Europe at this point. I'll be interested to see where the U.S. price point lands.

See Porsche AG Press Release re: 911 Turbo on 2/13/2006.

Excerpt as follows:

The basic Euro price for the 911 Turbo is 115,000 Euros. In Germany it is available for 133,603 Euros including value added tax and country-specific requirements. In the USA the 911 Turbo is priced at 122,900 Dollars (not including taxes), and will be available as from July 8, 2006.

Cars are always cheaper in the US than in Europe.

Yes has something to do with VAT maybe?

Anyway 122 - 107 = 15 K. Relatively little money for the added performance. Who cares what the power to weight ratio is as long as the TT is faster by nearly a full second to 60 mph?

Icon, to answer your question: when X51 was introduced nobody knew what the US price point for the TT would be. Now that they do I'll bet that takes a lot of sales away from the X51.

Enjoy your decision and your car when you get it...personally I agree with your rationale completely. Don't see the fun in 0 to 60 races in 3600 lb cars (of course that's why I chose a 987)

Besides, the difference with some options on the Turbo will be more like $18-20K.
