Cayman vs 997
Hey All...
I've been reading up on Rennlist over the past few weeks. I originally started reading up on the Cayman but the 911 keeps calling me. I would love the 911 but felt with the higher cost it would be out of the question BUT... after plugging in various models and lease scenarios into Leasecompare.com it seems the 911 has a higher residual thus making the lease for the 911 less expensive than some of the 70k caymans!
Has anyone else run into this same scenario? If that's the case maybe I will be in the market for a 911.

Of course it will (the 911 being higher). A 70K Cayman is still just a 58K car with 12K in options. We all know that options don't recoup crap on the resale.

personally i take cayman over ANY porsche (including TT or GT2) except CGT, GT3.
but it's obvious you have doubts about the cayman and 997 is calling you. so get what you really want, else you will regret it big time.
cheers.

Have you considered driving both the Cayman and the 997?
The question seems completely academic without having driven both cars. This is not a question a sreadsheet can answer - buying a car at this price is not a rational choice not shouldn't be.
You might find your own senses are better judges of what you like and what feels valuable to you, rather than a bunch of guys here pontificating about their preferences.

They are two VERY different cars. I would suggest you drive them both, in the same day, to help with your choice. But what a wonderful choice to have - win-win

As I have mentioned before. My driving time would be reduce at least 50% if weren't for the back seats. We have two kids and are typically over scheduled. My Porsche would sit on most weekends if it didn' have the seats.

Back Seats? I love having back seats in the 911 more so than the boot space in the Boxster!!!
Drive both of the cars, they feel totally different and I tell ya, the Cayman is a great addition to the Porsche family of cars - but it's no 911 !!!!!!

It all depends on EXACTLY what you want the car for. The way I look at it for me is:
60K for a new Cayman/70-80K for a new 997.........or 70-80K for a 996 GT3. No brainer for me. I will be adding a 996GT3 as soon as the 997GT3 comes out. However, I will still keep my 996CAB. The GT3 will be my track *****

Not all of us can afford two 911 - thus the wife's Boxster for the convertable (more than enough power for her) and I get a sunroof for the 911.
Damn 996Cab and a 997GT3 - Now that's living large!!!

Motorsport is just nothing more than an addiction. Plain and simple. And the slope is very slippery. Don't get me wrong.....I LOVE MY ADDICTION.....not to mention my wife is addicted to track days as well. I am the first to admit I am a very lucky guy.

Actually the back seats in the cab are worse than the coupe. The angle of the rear seats in the cab is nearly perpendicular to the bottom seat whereas in the coupe it is slightly reclined. Its because of extra room needed for the softtop.
