Default Buying a used 997/997S...Advice?

I have been a Porsche owner/driver for 35 years and have owned over a dozen
Porsches. I recently sold my 86 Carrera coupe (but still have my 96 Carrera cab and my 98 Boxster). I am interested in a "pre owned" 997 or 997S Tip.
I would appreciate any advice you 997 owners could provide me.... What to look for, what to pay, etc. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thanks,
Jeff

Default Recent Purchase 997S

I just bought a 5k mile 997S Tiptronic. Black/black full leather, Navigation for PCM, Sport Chrono Plus, PCCB ceramic brakes, Bose high end sound, heated seats, power seat package, self dimming mirrors. Sticker $102k, Insurance company (Chubb) value $93k, trade-in value on ordered C4S cab $74k (just curious). Replacement $104k. Paid $67.5k from private party: 65+ year old woman (really) who wanted a new Aston! Took for service and exhaust tip recall. Also a recall on Tiptronic. Dealer installing a NEW tiptronic under warranty. Great car. Found through ad that ran for one day in NY Times, although car was in Miami.

Steven,

Would you happen to know the details regarding the Tiptronic recall? I just bought a pre-owned '05 Cab S Tip and I need to take my car in for the exhaust tip recall. I'm hoping that the Tiptronic recall might have to do with a "hesitation" that I get in 2nd at around 2600-3000 RPMs?

Thanks,
Jeremy

From what I understand, it is on VERY early cars and is VIN determined. In my case, a transmission warning light came on once - the one that says you can proceed in 2nd to the nearest dealer - but then I was able to reset it and it stayed off. The replacement, according to Brumos, was primarily because of electronics and the replacement transmission was the most current one with all the updates. It is great now - took it to Lime Rock a few weeks ago and it was a blast. Good luck.

If you are buying from a dealer this may help: last week I had my car appraised for trade in by my local P-dealership and offered/ appraised at 64.9k. I paid 92.5k 12/04 with 13.4k miles.

Since someone is interested I got out the paperwork on my 997S. The 92,540.00 price included tire warranty and 3M, (I'm easily upsold).

MSRP was $91,945.00. Options: Cocoa Special Leather / Carrara White, Floor Mats, Front and Rear Leather, Park Assist, Power Seat package, Sport Chrono Pkg. Pllus, Wheel Caps w/ Colored Crests, 19" Sport Design Wheels, Bose High End Pkg. I added the P-Crest Ultimate pedals.

This car was ordered by someone else, the only item I find useless is the park assist. It works well, but why on a car this small? .....maybe if driver is not sober.....I do get asked about not having the navagation, I don't miss the nav, never use it past month 2 in my other cars.

Also against: respray on driver back fender, (mother of all SUV door dings).
