Default How much to repaint your hood?

If I were to repaint my hood thru a professional datail shop how much do you think it would cost. Also if the car is only 4 months old would it be a great match or do you think you would see the difference in colors?

Woodranch - what makes you think you polished through the clearcoat?

I had a fairly deep scratch that a professional detailer took out but in the right reflection you can see the patch on the hood were he worked a little harder on it to get it out.In the reflection you can see that are stands out a little.I wonder if he worked to hard on it or went thru the clearcoat?

Have you tried to give it a coat of wax or synthetic protectant (synthetic wax, not "polish")?

That's too bad! What a shame! I guess with a scratch that deep, you may not have had much of a choice to get agressive with the polishing. You can probably get the hood repainted for $200 - $400, depending of the area of the country you are in and how much prep work is required.

It should be almost exact since your car is so new. What color is your car? I have heard that metalic is harder to match, but should not be a problem for a quality painter. I believe the clearcoat will be a little "softer" than the factory clearcoat.

AirPhoto made a good point on your "other" thread. You may be able to get just the clearcoat resprayed if the actual paint is not damaged.

I think you're really worrying for no reason. It's almost impossible to polish through the clearcoat. As was pointed out before, if you take a white towel with a little bit of polish on it and rub it in the paint and it looks black (in your case) then you can claim you've gone through the clearcoat.

I sanded the hood down completely to remove the orange peel in the clearcoat and then power polished to buff out the sandpaper scratches and when I was done I still had plenty of clearcoat left on the paint.

FWIW, If I were you I'd get my friends to help me unbolt the hood. Then you can deliver it to the paintshop by hand. Keep the hoodless car at home. Too much dust and crap at bodyshops.
