If you were introduced to a member of the Porsche family you'd hear name pronounced Por-shaw.

Now after that introduction are you gonna call their cars a "porsh?"

I find it slightly dumb/rude when people say it wrongly.

There's no family name "Volkswagen" so you can mess it up with etiquette-al impunity.

The question is how would the Porsche family members introduce themselves to you? They way THEY pronounce their name is the proper way and is also the proper way to pronounce their product's name.

Pretty amazing drifting. I thought that would be hard to do in a car with the engine centered more towards the middle (I don't know the CGT but it is midengine correct?).

The way he drives you would think he had to have slammed into the side several times! Pretty impressive!

I call my Porsche by the Americanized name of "Porsch" My, wife, who is Austrian, was constantly correcting me until the day I lost it and said I'll call it a Porsha the day her dad refers to me as "Doug" instead of "Duck"! If the Germanic speaking people won't pronounce my name correctly then I am not going to go to out of my way to pronounce F. Porsche's name correctly. I think $70K+ is enough to pay for that right

When people say "channel" instead of "chanel" or "prayda" instead of "prada" it makes me laugh - we just need to work on people with the Proper Porsche Pronunciation. Admittedly, I used the 'US' pronunciation until I ordered one for myself,...and joined the club!
It would probably make a funny ad for Porsche to play around with this whole pronunciation thing and poke fun at it. I did write to them about this possibility, but they already gave me a No on the "Cayman My ***" campaign that I suggested....sorry, had to use this one again,...it still makes me laugh.

Except for Coochas' funny, "do a searcha", this is an inane discussion.
Off with their heads!

Dave - could you please clarify something for me? Exactly what is it that makes you laugh... the phrase "Cayman My ***" or how you felt when he "Caym...." oh, never mind. That could be TMI!

Okay, now I'm confused, Dave. The German pronunciation is Por-sheh and the American pronunciation is Por-shah. Is that what you were saying before you joined the club?

I guess what makes the discussion difficult to follow is that we have two identical threads just because someone failed to do a searcha.

Anyway, here is one place where the difference between American (English speakers generally) and German speakers pronouncing Porsche was discussed:

No Ben,...the 'usual' pronunciation in the US is Porsh - you know, like how 95% of people say it.
Anyhow, Pronunciation My ***. Just doesn't do it for me.
