Default 3.6L versus 3.8L engine

I've heard that the 3.6L is a better engine than the 3.8L and one of the reasons is becuase it has a better dry sump or s true dry sump. Also the new turbo is using the 3.6L and not the 3,8L which I assumed would be in the new turbo. Any comments would be appreciated. When I get my 911, horsepower is not the only factor.

the 996 carrera is not as good - the 996 turbo, gt2, etc has a true dry sump. the standard run of the mill 3.6 did not

The 996 and 997 TT cars have essentially an updated 964, and 993 engine which was originally air-cooled. It's still a different breed than the mass-market 996 and 997 Carrera engines.

Porsche made the 470+ hp for the new turbo without the need for more displacement (3.8), but someday expect to see a turbo 3.8 but it will be of a different version than the normally aspirated type.

Dan,

Since the new gt3 will also be of that breed, what is the big deal? Is the new engine not as good??

TIA
Greg
