I give it 10 years
that takes a lot of infrastructure and with all the companies that have tried to go too big on projects with satellites and such, it'll be awhile before it's picked up by luxury car makers, then volkswagen, etc....
I mean, iPod integration is JUST coming to some brands
as long as DVD based navigation works fine and people don't demand more, that's what they'll get.
Eventually cars will be fully integrated into your own personal cellphone service and internet browsing will be handled through your personal phone.

i mean to me, that's just the logical choiuce because the fact is cell phone providers already do that stuff... Launching another system for motorists just might not be financially viable, at least not in the short term. satellite radio was a great idea, but, poorly managed, and both sirius AND xm are suffering

Maybe a wireless internet type of system where GPS is just one of the functions instead of the primary. Maybe it could update the sytem continually as well as provide much more information without a DVD disk. In place of a map readout on the console a 3d head-up display with full voice command and stock reports, image phone. Voice command assistant. Who knows, but I don't think the current incarnation of the navigation system has been fully developed and there must be suprises in store for the future. Just my opinion and yours are welcomed.

Length of an option list that would make John Holmes jealous,...priceless.
