If the banks don't trust their own checks, we should'nt either.
Cash or bank wire transfer is the best way to go.

no no I said it was pretty good - never said it was 100% secure
nothing is
cash isn't secure because you might get your *** knocked out or it could be fake, etc...

I sold my 02 996 private party in July and took cashier's checks. When I went to deposit the bank put a 7 day hold on one of them. I was not pleased and spoke with manager and he said he would track it for me and to call 2 days later. He did, I did and he released the hold. The car was stolen from new owner 2 days after that and first question out of his mouth was were the cashier's checks deposited. I believe he wanted to attempt a stop payment on them.
The only way I would do it now would be to meet at the bank and conduct the transaction there so no hold would be placed or by wire. IMO the only two safe ways to conduct a high end vehicle transfer.

Yes live and learn. Cashier's checks used to be treated as cash years ago not anymore.
I asked the guy why the question about the checks and he told me his insurance company had asked him to ask me the question.
The guy seemed like an OK guy but you never know.

I spoke with the branch manager and she personally called the B of A branch that had issued the check to verify that the funds were there, and then lifted the hold.

Absolutely a wire transfer. Not only do you get the money in electronic form but pulling off a wire transfer scam is so difficult that anybody that could do it would go for much bigger fish.
Cash can be fake, checks are a joke, and WHATEVER you do don't let them test drive the car while giving you the keys to theirs while it sits in your driveway. My uncle did that but the car was stolen and the guy never came back with my uncle's car.
Wire transfer first, then everything else.

wire transfers or cash......I sold my C6 via cashiers check, but scheduled to meet with the bank manager and the buyer to verify that the check is legitimate. This way, if something goes wrong later, it would be on the bank's ****.

sigh. Whats this world coming to, have to be so sceptical of people now. No such thing as two people making a good buy/sale without worries. The internet has been really great but has brought almost as many problems with it.
