That would surprise me as Porsche cars are significantly more expensive in Germany than in the U.S., even when factoring out the sales tax. Plus, stuff like cruise control, power roof, etc. are expensive options, not standard. At the current exchange rate, my car would cost almost $20,000 more in Germany than it costs me here (including German and U.S. sales tax).

Many years ago I ordered a Porsche (while living in Germany) and took delivery there at Zuffenhausen. Drove it for about 10 months, amassing some 20,000 miles on it, and then shipped it home to the USA. Was it cheaper? Probably, but not by much. I just did it to have the car in Europe, and wound up dealing with a German dealer in Heilbronn. It was equiped as a US Model, and ultimately no VAT was collected.
