Got One
I picked up a 2006 Carrera S Sunday, what an amazing car. I had been shopping for a 993 or 993 Turbo to replace a 97 C4S that I sold a year ago. But I decided to test the new Carrera and Cayman. The Cayman was nice and the Carrera S blew me away. The color is Seal Grey, black full leather, heated seats, sport chrono, navigation, Bose…

Wow! The whole concept of "dropping by the dealer" and actually buying a new Carrera S "off the lot" is just amazing.
Even though my projected six-month wait from order to delivery only lasted four-months, it would have been very cool to just go shopping and get one.
Congratulations.

ehhh, I dunno, i would go a little off with my colours and get something unique... if you want conservative silver on black or something like that dropping by the dealer, however, is the way to go

Leader - I have to hold the prize - I drove to my dealer on 997 launch day, in my 5 month old Targa - just wanted to see what they looked like. A joking "make me a deal I can't refuse", and 5 hours of knots in my stomach later, I drove home in a 997S!

Congrats! My Carrera S was delivered last week! CA law requies front plates. Your pics are the first I've noticed with a front plate. I may have to go down the same road even though I hate the idea of drilling holes in the car!
Thanks for the welcome!!!
I had a black / black 97 C4S that was very nice. I found though that I am ****; and the black was hard to keep up. To me no Porsche looks better than a clean black one. But when I would wash it then watch how fast it would get looking less than perfect, it just bugged me. The 993 is a wonderful car. I will miss the way the door sounds when you close the door. It is like a vault and it is a beautiful sound. The 993 is a classic, it is the best of the air / oil cooled Porches.
For my next car the colors I was looking for were silver, white, yellow… When I bought my new 997S they had a Red S, a Black C4S, a Silver Carrera and the Seal Grey I bought. I like the SG the best. The options are what I would have ordered except for the full leather, but I am glad now that I have that. It is interesting that the salesman that sold me my car that Saturday also sold the other three. On Super Bowl Sunday he delivered my car at 10 AM and three others that day. The only problem with that day is that Seattle did not win.
When I test drove the Cayman and Carrera I could not believe how far Porsche had progressed in the driving experience and creature comport. The power, the drivability, the feedback from the instrumentation… it to me is a quantum leap. If you are considering both cars you need to drive both and make your own decision.
When I did my test drives of the Cayman and Carrera I did it to convince myself that another 993 was the right decision. After driving the 997S there was no going back; I love this car. Another reason for buying a new car is that you never have to wonder how it was broken in or if it had paint work or any of the other questions that drive us crazy. I like this decision.
