A quick question to those that have option 666. Does the phone in the car need to be activated? On Rennteam, there was note of an activation code that has to be entered into the 'PiWiS' (I have no idea what this is).

The reason I ask is because the dealer has no clue (I am the 1st with this option). The PCM recognizes my Sim card and downloads the phoen book, but there is absolutely no signal bars to the phone. It will not even manually read the networks like the manual states it should. Also, when I dial 911 with the SIM out ( or in it does not matter) there is no signal/dial tone etc.

The PCM goes through the phone on/phone off business, but no signal. I have the 64K Cingular Sim and I am ordering a 32K but I do not think that is the problem. There was no activation code info with the paperwork (my brother just got a M3 and there was an activation code to turn on his phone).

Was the Sim Card activated already. If you can use the card on your phone, it should works on the car.

No activation needed other than making sure the SIM works in a phone. I added a line to my plan, got the free phone, popped the SIM out of the phone and into the drawer and it worked.

Stephenkng is correct - if it works in a phone it should work in the car.

If there is activation to be done via the PIWIS, this is done by the dealer during PDI system setups. You should be able to dial 911 without a SIM card, so the SIM card is not the source of your problem.

I had this option added by the dealer in Nov. They too had the same the exact problem with my install. It would download the phonebook but had no signal and could not make or receive calls. The dealer (Danbury Porsche, Danbury CT) then switched the module (located under the driver's seat I believe) to "US" or "North America" and then the system worked perfectly. They tried everything else first including calling Porsche NA with no success. The Service Advisor is Jeffrey Bobbins (203-744-5200, #3,#2) and he will remember what saved the day to enable the module for my 06' C2S Cab.

Rshanholz, what was the cost to ADD the option post-factory? I am considering doing this myself.

I do not have the file in front of me as I am traveling. I will post tomorrow night upon my return. I remember the price in the $2k-$2.5k for parts and install.

Thanks for the tips, the sim card works in my phone, and as a matter of fact, I have tried 3 different sim cards. I was also fighting with Cingular to send me a 32K card as there was an issue with that in the past but they have none available now.

The phone is 'dead' and rshanholtz has the best idea so far, so I hope it is such a problem as his so it can be corrected quickly. I will give your service manager a call (or have the local guy call him).

Nice try OC Ben! You're very close with Rock Lobster. Not to make light of the phone problem but with such potential to be problematic it's just kinda weird.
